When officers arrived they said they found that the homeowner had got into a struggle with one of two suspected burglars after he'd been forced into the kitchen.

More notes from article please. It's like some of you have never taken an English/writing class before.

Your subject here is sort of like your thesis statement and you're supposed to provide quotes in your main paragraph (message) to support/back up your subject. You failed, try again.

Your mother obviously failed and hopefully she won’t try again.

Just because you have a burglar in your house doesn't always mean your life is threatened enough to justify murder

Besides, one man's burglar can be someone else's houseguest

The Limeys care even less about personal freedom than American progressives.

Great Britain is one of the most monitored and videoed countries on Earth.

In many states, it's justifiable homicide even without the immediate threat.

Castle doctrine.

And how exactly would you determine threat level. The burglar had a screwdriver, which is undoubtedly a deadly weapon. Homeowner stabbed him ONCE.

If someone illegally enters my house planning to commit any crime, I should be able to defend myself and my residence with lethal force against them

The neighborhood used to be safe for the folks who lived there. According to that report and comments, recently there have been burglaries of many homes as well as car breakins.

The man who is charged was asleep next to his wife until he was forced downstairs by the two perps.

The perp of the other race was seen trying to drag his buddy in crime into their nondescript white van, dropped him and drove off.
