Besides, one man's burglar can be someone else's houseguest
If you have a small child in your house and you know someone has just broken in, are you just going to wait and assess the threat level before you act? Are burglars worthy of that?
If anyone breaks into your house it means they are up to no good. Whether they intend to physically harm or not should not be up to the home owner to determine. The burglar gave up that right once they entered illegally.

I'm on the side that says you can use whatever force necessary if someone breaks into your house, but breaking in at night makes this even worse. It's not like these guys came in during the day assuming nobody was home. If you break in an occupied home at night, you are assuming people are there. You should get whatever is coming to you.

Again, this is not 100% accurate. The Castle Doctrine simply grants a legal presumption of defense for a person using force against the person in their home. It doesn't mean that they cannot be convicted of a degree of homicide in certain instances.

You have the right to defend your home against burglars. If you are stupid enought to break into someone else’s home, what happens to you is on you. You invaded someone else’s private home. In doing so, you made yourself an instant threat. The home owner has no way of knowing what your intentions are. Laws that don’t allow you to defend your own home are absolute bullshite.
