Lolo Jones- My Cat

In 2015, I was driving Hot Shot heading to Katy, TX to make a delivery. At the Lacassine exit I thought I saw something out of the corner of my eye walking on the shoulder and it was a black, little baby kitty!

I exited the next exit and raced back to try to save this poor kitten. My thought was that when I approached it...I was going to scare it and it was going to run from me, right into traffic, with me watching an 18 Wheeler killing the kitten I was trying to save.

I saw her, she was heading towards Lake Charles. I had to run across a field, when I got close, I yelled, "Kitty kitty!" Thankfully she he heard me and came running. The poor thing was nothing but bones so I immediately went to the Texaco and bought some cat food and gave her water as well. This is her the night I found her.



Well, being a cat lover, and seeing how she immediately became attached to me I decided to keep her. So what to name her. At the time I had a big male white cat for like 7 years named Bernard Hopkins (B-Hop) named after my favorite boxer.

Well, I don't force a name on my animals...I just let it evolve. So, I eventually named my new rescue kitty Lolo Jones. The kitten would come up to me for me to pick her up, and when I would bend over to pick her up she would run from me. Then come to me and the run away...because she liked to run and play chase it seemed like an appropriate name...it fit!

Fast forward to last month. I got off work and went to the grocery store and who came walking out, right in front of my car...Lolo Jones. It happened to be Father's day...and everyone kept wishing me a Happy Father's day even though I have no kids. My response was, "I'm a cat Dad."

I parked and got out of the car and said, "Hey Lolo, I named my cat after you. Do you mind if we take a picture?"

She said, "No problem," and was sweet as can be...very nice.



I was not going to share this with the board...but last night she Tweeted some ESPY pictures and said she was going back to sweats for the next 4 months. I Tweeted at her our picture. Which she liked!

The only regret is I was so nervous I forgot to give her a book which I had several in my trunk. I have shaken hands with W. Bush & Trump, Got Pics with Ali, Frazier, Larry Holmes, Smokey Robinson and many other famous people...I prefer pictures over signatures...and this was the most nervous I have ever been asking for a picture...all because of my damn cat being named after her!
