This is bullshite. The drug isn't the problem and has pain management value in certain instances. The lawsuits should be directed on the MDs passing these prescriptions out like candy, to millions of people for completely BS reasons. Some patients have been getting prescribed mega doses of oxy for random "back pain" for over ten years.

IIRC, their “promotion” team told doctors it was safe and had no addictive qualities. They used ONE small study (Harvard?) as the basis for the info. In short, it seems as though Purdue pharma and the Sackofshit family knew what they were doing.

Docs were fed bullshite data from the company from the start, and were therefore not concerned about the abuse potential. That being said, once that came to light, the crooked docs who continued to hand these out like crazy do need to face the music as well.

As long as folks are also able to sue the government for cutting folks off, thus driving the heroin market to heights not seen since the 70's it is all fair and even.

IIRC there were also allegations are that they were rewarding physicians that subscribed it leading to it being overprescribed and abused.

It shouldn’t have taken long to notice the effect the drug was having on doctors patients and plenty of them still chose to continue to make bags of money selling it.
