Maybe he did, but if I'm not mistaken, most murders are solved without any knowledge of who did it. Just doesn't make sense to endanger other lives for one already lost, no?

A man is dead after a two-car crash during a police chase late Tuesday night, according to authorities.

Why can't you see this?

Livingston Sheriff's Department and BRPD will be paying this man's family a nice chunk of their budget

Why exactly is BRPD paying any money on this?

When I click the link it says someone died in a title, that's weird.

I posted what's at the link I click on 1st page, last post. Are we getting different pages?

Fwiw, I'm on mobile.

We must be. Im getting the same thing as upgrayedd when I check the article. Nothing about anyone dying.

There was a blighted car within a one mile radius, so there's that. I love the "they should never chase" responses. I would imagine if one of the criminals does something to them or their family then it would be to chase until the wheels fall off.

Yes. Police should stop chasing after bad guys and that will solve the problem.

Use technology. Call ahead and have road blocks or other offers waiting down various roadways. Use helicopters. Get the tag #s.

The person will eventually be caught.

How about just getting a tag number and vehicle description? It's always baffled me cops speeding through congested areas, chasing what's usually not much of a threat to society, and most of this stems from the fricking war on drugs. "OMG, he might throw out his ounce of weed! Chase him!"

Luckily for Schanda Handley, police didnt just get the tag number and a description

Should policies be looked at to change for public safety?

Good luck man, Ive fought this battle. The attitude here is it doesnt matter if 200 hundred people are killed during a chase, WE HAVE TO GET THE BAD GUY.

Punishing the bad guy > peoples lives

Anyone without a felony can be a cop.

Departments give discretion of pursuit to the cop. Doesn't mean they're Einstein. Or even above average intelligence to have discretion on what's safe/isn't. Most join to frick someone up.

Tougher admission standards. Is the answer.

How many innocent dead are worth catching one perp?

Why couldn't the cops arrest them later and still charge them with fleeing the police?

If they instituted that policy, maybe it would cut down on people fleeing knowing they can't escape charges either way.

I can't believe anyone thinks it's a good idea for cops to simply let criminals go when they flee in a vehicle. That's a monumentally stupid idea.

I am guessing the dead person at the scene would have disagreed.

People here cant conceptualize that, if you dont pursue immediately you have let the bad guy go and it made Jesus cry.

Unfortunate incident, but what can you change? Don't chase suspects/perpetrators?

Many cities and even several States have no pursuit policies in urban areas because of the danger to innocent bystanders.

I read some years ago that over half of all high speed chases end with the criminal getting away anyway. A chase greatly increases the chances of damage to city and private property, injury to officers and perpetrators, injury to innocent people, and all for an event that is more likely than not to end with the perpetrator getting away. It just isn't worth the risk for anything other than the most heinous of crimes.

Would this be your feeling if it was your wife or child who died?

What about the child hit on Old Hammond by a fleeing vehicle?
