What meds have you taken? I would wager a step therapy of Lexapro 10mg for 60 days, then increase to 20mg long term would seriously help. Nice, low, simple Rx to jump start a little change. Limit alcohol, get in shape and sleep when it's time to sleep. Real sleep.

Abilify, Trileptal, Trazadone and Xanax when needed. I rarely touch the Xanax. Hate the stuff.

One of my cousin's best friend has started a charity Birdies 4 Bipolar

He was diagnosed after having some manic episodes. He takes his meds, is doing very well, and will talk to anyone at anytime if they need someone to talk to about stuff.

He was a former Mizzou baseball radio guy, played golf at Spring Hill. He's a great dude. Just recently caddied in the US Open.

His book is really good too: Birdies, Bogeys, and Bipolar

I recommend reading the book.

Also, if you drink, stop now. The meds won't work.

Never really had that side effect. The Abilify just numbs me to any real emotion. I don't feel as much as I think I should feel. Of course, BD people tend to feel too much anyway. So, maybe it's just a normal amount of feeling. That's the tricky thing with mental illness, you're trying to get to a state you've never experienced before.

Seconded. I started taking my antidepressants and did not drink but a few once a week, then I started making real strides. After a few months I started having a few beers per night again, and fell right back down the hole.

Stopped drinking every day, then my brain seemed to even out again.

Not trying to be an MD here but maybe get your goals down of simply doing what it takes to get better. Go back to simple basics. Eat better. Sleep better. Take walks or work out. And if you're willing, ask for a new med and chunk the rest. Try 10mg Lexapro for 2 months. Up to 20 thereafter. I've seen some amazing changes in a couple of female friends who just went with easy basic regimens. Retrained themselves basically.

No idea. Haven't smoked in 10+ years. I'd imagine it helps with any anxiety you have though.

Depends. Mostly it triggers paranoia and mania.

Forget the haters man, you work on you

It's a tough thing to go through considering you have no one to really vent to that will listen.

I have a mild case of Bipolar Disorder. I take meds everyday plus cardio at the gym 5 days a week and try to watch my diet. Get regular sleep. I can even drink 2 glass of red wine a day with no problems with my med(which is not recommended) but I have had no problems. Stay on a healthy routine.

I wish you the best of luck. I can't tell you I can relate to what you're going through- but I do pray you can find the right person/professional who can actually help you. Never give up trying to get help for yourself. There can be brighter days ahead.

Well, I broke down and called into my shrink's office for a refill of my Xanax. I haven't taken any in months.

Called at 1 and left a message. Called again at 4. No answer.

Guess I'm not getting those meds today. I like my shrink. I hate his fricking office.
