Bawette doesn't mean girlfriend.
Travel Baw/Bawette - Lafayette/Cajun for Baseball Travel Ball Kids. You definitely won't survive in Lafayette....

Lafayette by a mile. I have lived in both and there is no comparison.
Better food
Safer streets
Better nightlife
tons of festivals in the fall and spring
less traffic
same amenities minus top golf
don't believe all the baw stuff, every town has white trash on one end or the other
come for a weekend and you decide.

They both suck, but at least Baton Rouge has LSU.

Lived in both.

Neither are amazing but both have strong points.

Overall I give the edge to BR because the local economy is so stronk propped up by plants that are essentially recession proof. Better place to raise a family in P'ville where the schools are actually usable.

Lafayette is wonderful for a lot of reasons, but if you are a practical career minded person, I say BR area all day. The bullshite here is worth the struggle

The "pieces would fit" better in Baton Rouge. There's a decent music scene here. Check out https://www.redstickmusic.com/. There's a good open mic night at Fat Cat Saloon in Prairieville on Sundays.

Couldn't agree more. I live right outside BR now and lived in Lafayette for a long time. Lafayette wins out easily.

Lafayette has boudin and cajun music.
Baton Rouge has nightlife and LSU.
They both suck for traffic.
They both suck for crime.
Housing prices are the same.
They both flood.
They have the same shitty weather.
They both have crappy city governments.
They both have the same crappy state government.
They both have old money and new money shenanigans.

Here's how you decide: Pick which side of the Mississippi you have the most friends and family on and live there. The Mississippi river bridge,(and upcoming years long construction), and the Atchafalaya basin bridge make the gap between Lafayette and BR HUGE. Traveling between the two cities is a nightmare.

2 years ago I would have liked living in a city.

Now I want to permanently distance myself from most of you. Maybe not the posters on here specifically (some of y’all are okay) but definitely society.

So my answer is to buy at least 2 acres in New Roads or Breaux Bridge (or nearby) and enjoy your space. That way you can get to either fairly easily but avoid both if you wanted to.

Agree. You’re not picking one that’s better than the other. You’re picking the one that sucks less. And that’s easily Laffy. Your employment should be the biggest factor in your decision tho.

my 2nd vote/recommendation would be McComb, MS. Home of the Dinner Bell.

I like Dinner Bell

I don't like celebrating New Year's Eve at 9am because McComb goes to sleep by 10am (or sooner).

Family there left our wedding reception at 9am for same reason. Party animals...

I think it starts around 7 and ends around 11.

It's really more of an open jam session with different musicians playing guitar, drums, bass, etc.

If a singer doesn't have backup players, Joey Breland usually handles the drums, and Chris LeBlanc's bass player handles the bass.

Sheesh, these threads are exhausting. Both cities have terrible infrastructure & traffic….BTR is the absolute worst though….I avoid like the plague. Laffy has more culture & better EATS. Easy pick
