I find that 525 is a little pricey for what you get, but that pool is indeed sick.

I mean I wouldn't want to live downtown, especially not for the prices they're asking. Get a 1 year lease on a condo by LSU and call it a day.

If you are working downtown it would be pretty sweet.

If you are living with a roommate or gf the price isn't too bad either. I think it would be worth it.

The Y downtown is a solid gym too so your really have everything you need right within walking distance.

I'd do it if I was in my 20's. Once you factor in reduced driving/uber costs/dwi risk it'd be worth the extra cost. If you're going to rent anyway take a chance on the more urban (although not yet a "real" city) setting. You have the rest of your life to live the suburban lifestyle.

This. Also....it's only for a year, so if you don't like it...move when the lease is up.

You must have not been to downtown br in a while. My uncle graduated from Belaire high in the early 80s. We were drinking on third a couple weeks ago and he was in awe about how different it was. He said the only reason back then to go downtown after hours was to score drugs.

everywhere else you look for a 1 bedroom

If you are getting married you will need more than 1 bedroom even if you do not plan on having kids. You may have a pet, friends staying over, you will need extra space just to have extra space, etc...

A one bedroom sucks.

If there is anything I am proud of myself about financially, it's that I didn't waste money right when I graduated. My first house was decent (but no OT mansion or anything). I paid 175k for it and my note with everything included was less than $950. Saved a lot of money during the time we lived there and sold the house 3 years later for 190k. I don't think it's a bad idea to rent by any means, but there's no reason to waste money on a place to be downtown by the bars when you are about to start your life. Once you start spending, you can't stop (trust me I've started and I'm having to learn to budget again). Take this time to keep living like a poor college kid and save up that money.

Where?

I was in a rental on Highland Rd for $1100 a month up until 2013. It wasn't anything fancy, but the location was good enough for me. Lived there for two years.

$100 bucks a month for a private spot behind an access arm. It is pricey, but I have access to the lasalle garage so I keep my car in there for free.

What would you suggest as far as parking goes. Me and my SO will both have cars.

It's all about self control. I built a bar for my place so I get good and sauced pregaming and don't spend much at all when it is time to walk third street.

You can find spots easy a block or two away after 5. I dont know when y'all would get home from work. If you dont mind walking to the cars and paying a meter every now and then, you could do that. Otherwise, pay the $200/month if you don't want the hassle and really want to live there.

Maybe. I was paying 600 in BR. I am cool with saving nearly 5k a year and driving to the grocery store.

When I was looking at houses around Southdowns, they were all around $1/sqft. I'd live there before an apartment (I did). The yard and space made it a lot less stressful, plus I was still close to everything

If you work downtown, I would do it. So much around you. Especially if you can afford it, then there is no reason not to. I just would be very cautious of my spending if I were you. Its much easier to spend alot of money when everything is a quick walk away... Also I would look into southdowns/mid-city if I were you. They are cheaper and great areas. I have lived in both.
