People on that show are rediculous. I am all for competition and hate participation awards as it is pussy shite, but those people are crazy

16 yrs now I've been coaching 7-13 yr olds. Actually this year recreation eliminated 13 year olds in football. I only know of one kid that's had concussion symptoms in that time. We have had broken arms ,hands, fingers,3 acl's in that time. We have mandatory concussion classes annually .

"Concussion" comes out soon. I think more parents will not let their kids play football in the next few years

Actually kids are more likely to develop spots on their brains from incorrectly heading the ball than they are from playing pe wee football.

Keep them inside, it's the only safe thing to do.
Or maybe let them do lots of stuff but not expose them needlessly to long term brain problems so that you can get a sniff of reliving your glory days.

Everyone who lets their kid play football is reliving their glory days. Got it.

They had that doctor on Mike and mike yesterday morning and he sounded like a complete retard, repeating himself over and over and over again. His own college said his science is flawed and can't prove you can CTE at a young age.
You put your kids in a car everyday and I'm sure you look at your phone while you drive. That's more dangerous then tackle football at a young age. But hey they are your kids...
I would worry more about them being obese or diabetic not tackle football.

Not only that, but the studies are very biased. The only brains they have studied are the absolute worst of the worst. They honestly have no clue what or when the impacts were that may or may not have caused it.
What parents should be concerned with is their kids' coach. I'm not too worried about that heads up mess, but some of these guys like to match the stud plays against the soft ones to 'toughen them up'. That's how you get kids hurt. If you're matching them up right and coaching them hard not to lead with the helmet, they'll be fine IMO.

I will likely withhold mine until 6th grade, mainly because parent coaches are crazy. I just talked to a kid and parent that play for a team in Hammond. 12 years old. They played a tournament in Texas last week. Played 5 games in 3 days. Ridiculous.

LINK Living in Texas it is a cultish thing for their little ones to strap on the helmet and pads and begin full contact at an early age. Knowing what we do now, we are holding ours out until they reach an age where it is school-sanctioned and their bodies have developed more. 6-12 year olds should not be in pads.....
Pussy. I've started playing at age seven, and aside from a constant brain fog and momentary staring spells, I'm good.

I should sue McDonald's for giving me a fatty liver. For 20 years every workday (work about 250 days a year) I have eaten McDonald's for breakfast and lunch.
You should not ever (even if you are on a 8 hour road trip to Disney) stop at a McDonald's and give your 6-12 year old McDonald's because the fat will stay in his little liver.
Just like Nfl didnt hold a gun to NFL players heads to play, McDonald's didn't hold a gun to my head to eat. So analogy is same.

Not accurate
See link
You likely have your own biases...
PS: I am a big fan of the sport. Played it for approx 15 years. I am also intellectually honest. Some on here would like to ignore these findings because it creates some internal strife.
quote:
Bieniek led the team that examined the clinical records of 1,721 cases in the Mayo Clinic Brain Bank. They found 66 males who had documented participation in contact sports during their youth and young adult years. Of these cases, 32 percent had CTE pathology when the researchers examined brain tissue. In comparison, none of the 198 brains of individuals without documentation of participation in contact sports, including 66 women, had CTE pathology.

Coaches like size and athleticism,
This. My 13 yr old nephew is 6' already. The football coach at his New Orleans area private school was begging him to play. He's never played on an organized football team in his life. Coach didn't care.

I heard that 4 of 5 injuries in high school football were incurred by athletes who failed to regularly participate in off season conditioning. True? Maybe, it sure makes sense.

.....wtf does off season conditioning and misc injuries have to do with CTE and playing at an early age?
