Maybe its because I grew up middle class, but is one of the best parts about a birthday party getting the presents? I never enjoyed inviting Dusty that was my dad's coworker's kid but I had to because of my parents, but at least that SOB brought a present.

If your kid is so spoiled they don't need any presents from friends, how about you stop buying them so much crap yourself? Not just that, but putting on the 3 year old's invitation that you will take diapers for kids in need instead of a present for your kid seems snobby as hell to me.

So what say you OT, am I that trashy?

Because kids have too much shite already. Likely won't ever play with any of that crap beyond the next week.

You’re pissed off because you don’t have to spend money on a kid? Really?

Or maybe they don't want to burden others with buying gifts for their kid?

I think this is kind of ok.

Or maybe they know some less-fortunate friends can't afford nice gifts and don't want them to feel awkward when little johnny opens the rubber band ball they bought him?

Give him a red Ryder BB gun. I promise he don't have one.

Helping people in need instead of giving your privileged kid more shite they don't need. THE HORROR!!!!

Maybe trying to teach the kid to value experiences over things? Give the other parents a break?

Just be glad you dont have to buy some piece of plastic crap that will be broken in 24 hours.

So uncle Johnny doesn't have to make up some stupid excuse when he shows up empty handed.

And yes people will bitch about anything. Jeez

Because they want the kids they invited to not feel lesser than by bringing a lesser gift than someone else or not bringing a gift at all.

It's the way it should be at that age in my opinion. Especially since the present will say more about the parent and less about the kid, BUT the kid will get the front end of the reaction.

Or maybe they are just trying to instill in their children from a young age to not be as materialistic and help others?

This is pretty standard. I usually bring the parents a nice bottle of red or bourbon.

You're not trashy, at least not for this, you just have zero perspective into what it's like to have kids in today's world.

I've only been to a couple little kid birthday parties, but I always bring this if its a catered thing and they're serving booze.

My wife brings some goober looking children's clothes that only the mother likes

Lol, I have 2 kids under 6.

FWIW I usually bring a bottle of wine if I know the wife or a 6 pack if I know the husband. AND, the horror I bring like a $10 gift.

I don't have an issue with instilling values, its the fact you send out a card with the request for NO GIFT.

Here's another crazy idea, you don't have to open gifts at the party. Then if someone forgot one, they don't feel bad.

Again, if they have too much shite they can't get a gift at a birthday part then the parents bought them too much crap to begin with.

The smocked stuff is annoying as hell. All my wife’s friends dress their kids in this. I already told my wife our kids will not wear such stuff. No doubt the kid will though, lol.

This, all the women that put NO GIFTS donate to charity on a 3 year old's birthday card are the kind of women that would never invite a poor kid lol. You people are ignorant, you think a rich kid is inviting a kid that couldn't afford a present? Not happening.
