Need to upgrade to an SUV in a few months with an expanding family. I test drove the new MDX a couple of weeks ago and really liked it. Handled surprisingly well for its size. I can’t get my hands on a GX anywhere to test drive. Anyone have experience with both? Considering holding out until the GX gets a redesign, it’s hard to justify 13mpg right now but I’m concerned if they drop the NA V8 and put in a hybrid v6 it will lose its reliability. Looking for an suv that will last me 10 years 100k miles+

The Gx is a gas hog, but it will last forever

Is one a unibody and the other a truck frame still?

Yes.

My wife has the new MDX. She likes it. I don’t drive it.

Gx is body on frame and MDX is unibody, I believe.

Bruh - these will both go for 20+ years with proper maintenance. The GX is essentially a rebranded Land Cruiser Prado.

Two totally different products. I am personally a big fan of the GX but the MDX is very competent nice offering.

If you are going for a 10 year car, GX all day. It's based on the Prado platform and used like rovers once were. Serious off-road third world stuff. It will ride a bit rougher. But it's a total brick house.

The MDX is basically a very large nice station wagon. It's a car-based chassis. Think super-mega-Accord and you're not wrong. I don't want that, but the Honda Accord is a really well-built car so nothing wrong there.

I got the MDX Type S. Man was that expensive. Too much grill plastic on a Lexus.

I test drove the AWd technology package. I’m not going to shell out for the S Type.

One concern is the MDX seems like kind of a mom car.

Grimaced and did it. I paid cash money. And now I have to find the right spot on the road to use the turbo.

I really want a GX 460.

I almost pulled the trigger on a couple of them the last few months.

I love my ES350 and I’d like to add another Lexus to my vehicle collection. Gotta get rid of this old Pathfinder too.

I haven’t really been following but have the Toyota/Lexus twin turbo V6’s been holding up well? Or do they have issues?

Why don’t you go test drive them yourself and make a decision like a grown-up

Depending on how the redesign looks In a few years, that’ll be my next one.

I’m in this exact market. I currently drive an MDX and have loved it. My only reason for considering the Lexus is size. The Lexus is a little wider but you don’t feel it necessarily once inside. I’ll probably end up with another MDX.

GX all day.

It's slow AF, gets terrible gas mileage and has the performance of a brick with wheels on it.

It's the best daily I've ever had. I love it.

The interior is what needs the biggest upgrade

Husband got the CX after always having a V8 Silverado and no longer a need for a truck bed. He wanted a truck and I wanted comfort on trips. He has never had a car so a unibody wasn't happening.
