The one time I went ahead and got Michelins, I was disappointed. They didn't hold up all that well.
Aside from politics, Goodyears have never disappointed me. I've had a couple of sets of Eagle F1 Asymmetric All-Seasons and those are really good. They last a legitimate five years and performed well in wet, dry, and light snow. I would not describe them as a quiet or comfortable tire, but they gave my car a much sportier feel.
I am riding on Eagle Sport All-Seasons now, which are similar, and they're not quite as sporty but they seem pretty damned good overall.
As far as cheaper performance tires go, I have pretty good feelings about Fuzions, though I've never kept them long enough to speak about their performance over several years.
I got almost five years out of a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE-92As but they looked dry-rotted for the last 3.5 years, and they are not particularly cheap unless you're the OEM.

My personal experience in the last 20 years:
Michelin tires last for a lot of miles but the last 15-20k miles will be noisy and rough. Their Pilot performance tires wear out in less than 10k miles.
Uniroyal Tiger Paws are a good combination of quiet and wear.
Continental makes good performance tires but their highway tread is rough and noisy.
Kumho makes a nice soft, smooth, highway tread that has reasonable wear.
Pirelli makes a great quiet highway tread that wears well.
Toyo is the best combination of quiet, smooth, and long wearing IMHO.

I don't like BFGoodrich or Firestone. I've never had Michelin tires before.

What size are your tires? I bought a set of Firestone destinations for $800 earlier this year. They ride really well!

My new truck came with Goodyear tires.
They ride and look good.

I got some Cooper's in February. Made in Tupelo, MS. They've been good so far.

Just ask about country of origin. Avoid chinese tires.
US, Mexico, France, Korea are fine.

Michelin on my truck and Pirelli on my wife’s suv

Cooper is shite and master craft was low mileage. Toyo imo even thought they’re fkn japs.

I’ve run Michelin and Continental for a long time but I recently switched to Pirelli for the higher tread wear rating. My car takes Z rated tires and the Michelin and Continental were just too soft and I’d barely get a year out of them.

Pay the extra money
I'm not sure if you've ever dealt with Discount Tire but their customer service/ hazard replacement etc etc etc is top notch.
If you spend $800.00 on tires they will service them and replace any that do not last as sold.
I have no affiliation with them other than a repeat customer due to them treating me right for 20 years.

18 inch.
Goes on a small SUV, but also need a sedan (16 or 17 inch) tires changed too

Never had any issues with Michelin tires but decided to give Bridgestone a try and after three years of use and they have exceeded my expectations.

He spins his tires so much that they don't last, because he's racing his car. The issues you face are probably much different, but, that said, he hasn't found buying expensive tires to be cost-effective for what he does.
Hopefully he can mount tires in his own garage / driveway. You probably can't, so you probably don't want throwaway tires even if the economics might seem to make sense.

BFGs were used on the Explorers in Jurassic Park and it took a T Rex to pull them off
So I’m a BFG man

I had BFG Rugged Terrains on my Jeep. They wore very evenly and I had 35-40k when I sold it last year and they had plenty left. Replaced the BFG a/t that were on there. Not that we get it often but they were great in the ice and snow we got in Bham several years ago. Drove around like it was dry pavement. Decent in the dirt and a little bit of mud. I wouldn’t want them in anything sloppy but they wore great and had good traction in the rain. Not as pricey as the all terrains and better road handling.
