Agreed. I'm ranking Creed last on my list. Can't even stand to be around a dude whose wearing it.

Slightly off-topic: anyone ever order a high end cologne from Amazon? I wonder how likely it is to be legit versus a rip off.

They're legit. Tom Ford is around $200 so, I'd call it somewhat high end. I've ordered it off of Amazon more than once.

Took my 17 yr old to get some last weekend, he's courting pretty heavy and wants to smell like a preacher.
Girl at Macy's sold us Yves Saint Laurent , I went to pay thinking $35-$40 ---- $137.00 plus Tax
He spays some on Monday , walks by and I immediately start sneezing. My eyes start watering and I develop a sinus headache.

Still have some of this I break out on occasion. Bottle has to be 45 years old.

Polo FTW
I left Polo out above, but there Blue is a wonderful scent. Pretty light. A bit more summer than year round but still ok for almost any occasion. Smells like cucumber and a bit of citrus. It’s a great, subtle scent that just smells ‘fresh’
They quit making Romance for men. I still like it and bought a bottle a few years back for nostalgia. Smells like apricots. I very much enjoy it
Double Black has a lot going on. Very strong vanilla scent with a bit of musk to back it up. It never lasts longer than an hour though, so if I had to buy one scent, it would not be the one.
Green (the original Polo cologne) smells like the 80s. You can smell it a mile away. Thick tobacco scent. I don’t have enough hair on my chest to pull it off. I have a 1oz sample bottle I got 20 years ago and still dab it on from time to time. It’s classic, but of those above, I wear it the least.

Whatever covers the weed smell best. Some of them you smell like weed and cologne.

Not a man, but I appreciate a smell better when its more subtle like shave products/hair pomade, etc.. I bought some beard oil and hair gel from Le Labo for my husband. Santal 33. You have to be pretty close to him to smell it, so if he's getting compliments from women, I'd be interested to know who so I can put some Visine in their coffee.

clearly you are knowledgeable on the topic, I'd love some tips for a "beginner", although that's not relaly the word I guess. Someone who doesn't typically wear cologne. For abotu 20 years the only cologne I've worn on occasion is Nautica Blue:

I think I was gifted a bottle in high school and that's all I've worn since just out of habit lol. I would liek to graduate to something a little nicer and between this thread and the similar one from a couple weeks ago the options are overhwleming.
The guy that started the prior thread was enamored with one that I can't remember but the bottle looks like a guy's torso. I've heard that Aqua di gio is a clasic, timeless option so I actually went to the mall the other day to get some but they were out, they only had the Profundo so I didn't get anything because i was really just focused on the orginal. I've also seen Versace and Creed mentiond a bunch.
For someone that knows NOTHING about the topic, what would you suggest as a good casual everyday wear for someone like me? I don't need different scents for different occasions and seaosns. I also very strongly prefer a lighter scent (like the nautica blue) opposed to something dark/heavy like the old school Green polo bottle. My dad wore that when I was a kid and man that was strong.
Ideally I can find something that can be found at any department store (bonus if it's carried at Belk because I havea gift card!) and hopefully not somethign super pricey.

Good ole Paul Sebastian. Timeless!

None.
I buy everything unscented that I can. I dont want to smell like a french whorehouse on friday night.
Deodorant, shampoo unscented. Ivory soap. I wash my clothes and sheets in either Scent Killer or Dead Down Wind.

I have 3, but have been having each for years because I rarely wear cologne, which is somewhat surprising as I enjoy different scents. I rotate soaps & shampoos frequently for nights/days and seasons though.
