No it doesn’t, FL’s Tax burden is much lower than LA’s.

Well since you have a low opinion of the place, hopefully it will entice you to stay away in the future.

Furthermore, I know you're a liberal so why do you want to a)be so judgmental and b)lump an entire population into the same group and stereotype?

Didn't realize these were common in Florida. Is there a problem with dogs getting ahold of them?

Cant really describe FL in broad terms as it is about as diverse as any state in the country.

The panhandle is the south, basically an extension of Alabama and Georgia in Pcola, Destin, Fort Walton, PC, Tallahassee. Interior of Florida is rural, retired, or college depending on were you are. South Florida is a huge mixture of absolutely everything imaginable. People from all over the world except Asia. Seriously. People like me, southern boy that likes the beaches, warm weather and hot women. People from the northeast. Canadians. Europeans. Caribbean people. Significant numbers of people from every country in south America, particularly Columbia, Brazil, and Venezuela. Cubans. Even a significant population of Russians in Sunny Isles.

And you have cheap properties and low incomes in many areas in the interior, and some of the most expensive properties and highest concentrations of wealth in the world in a dozen other communities in south Florida. And you have everything in between as well. Orlando is about as without an identity (besides Disney) as anywhere I can think of. Just a your average American person or family.

Florida is just a mixture of everything. And south Florida is a mixture of basically everything world wide except Asia. The sports bars are awesome during the world cup. Whoever is playing will pack out the sports bars as there are a lot of people from every country here. Last Thurs I was eating lunch at a sports bar literally surrounded by a couple of dozen Russians watching the Russia Saudi Arabia game.

The opportunity is really in Sarasota. I mentioned tampa because that is the largest city in the area. Schools and family life/QOL is important. Anyone familiar with that area?

It's hard to put your finger on it, but Tampa and Florida in general just feel really basic and boring to me. I don't really understand the appeal outside of the beaches.

Lakewood Ranch is between Sarasota and Tampa. Good schools, neighborhoods, easily accessible from I75. Beaches are close. We also have fresh water springs that are wonderful for kayaking and even a warm mineral spring near Sarasota. Floridians as a whole are pretty healthy, lots of bike and hiking trails. Out of Door Academy is in Lakewood Ranch.

During the season, traffic is horrid on I75 between Sarasota and Tampa. Mostly old folks and European tourist during the season in Sarasota proper. Check out St. Armand's circle and Longboat key. That will give you a taste of the money in Sarasota.

Moved to Tampa about 3 years ago. Love it. Hot and humid more than I care for but otherwise no complaints. Low cost of living, solid wages, and a ton of things to do. If you get the chance to move here I would do it in a heartbeat, especially if it means you leaving Louisiana.

I was in Clearwater for a few days last summer. I was expecting more heat/humidity than we had. Loved the beaches.

Nice area imo.

Are you going to be leaving LA? It's a no brainer. Did it several years ago.

Sarasota proper used to also be known as winter quarters for the circus folks. A lot of them are still in the area, even with Ringling closing.

I had some friends that lived in Bradenton. Bradenton is a few miles north of Venice. They lived on some canals that led into the Little Manatee river. I used to go down and go fishing with them and loved it. I hated when they moved.

Plan to buy a boat or some Wave Runners. You will want them.

Largely true. I moved to Florida when I could have picked from a couple of dozen states. I found some beautiful land next to a wildlife refuge and very close to the ocean. The view from my home office window is amazing. There is still some Old Florida left if you look for it.

Sarasota county has the 6th best school district in FL. They are mostly ranked in the B range. They do get a C in sports but that is their lowest grade. Somebody from down there can tell you better on specific schools.

If you hunt, the deer are small and hogs are plentiful. There is some freshwater fishing but it is mostly about the salt. Within an hour you have some theater and cool museums. There is good food everywhere but if you like to cook, buying smoked sausage to cook with in FL is not good.

There are a lot of Hispanic people and islanders. Most are just trying to work and enjoy life. Here is a crime map. Sarasota county crime map

There are some taxes and fees but it is not the onslaught that I saw in LA. They also try to provide services to the people. My house is worth about $230k and I pay about $200 a month for taxes and insurance. Insurance has grown way higher than taxes.

Once somebody from there gives you the names of the better schools, you can decide what you want to spend on housing and we will find you something cool on Zillow.
