As someone who has had thankfully brief periods of life with moderate anxiety, I feel for you. It is not pleasant.
I can't speak much to the klonipin, as I've only ever tried Xanex, and even then sparingly. And yes, the effect is obvious.
On the Zoloft, I've taken it once years ago and then another SSRI a decade or so later. Both were for less than a year. The later SSRI (Celexa maybe) was an absolute sex destroyer and I hated it. Didn't really have the same trouble with Zoloft. Point being, you may have to try a few before you find one that doesn't have bad side effects.
Long term, I would highly, highly recommend seeing a professional counselor for this kind of thing. You might feel like a pansy for needing it (I did), but at least for me, it worked wonders. There are mental and physical techniques you can take advantage of to help break the anxiety cycle. Or they might help you identify some underlying reasons for the anxiety. It's also true that some people are just more prone to this type of thing, so treat it like a medical issue and not a personal failing.
Anxiety is something I think of occasionally now rather than all the time. If you do improve, just be cognizant it can come back and be ready to deal with it before it gets out of hand.

Change Wellbutrin ("poor choice for anxiety") to Zoloft. And change Valium 5mg to klonipin 0.5mg.

I've recently (4-6 months) changed docs. The new place is a mill essentially. I see a PA or an NP only. This week a new NP comes in. I've taken Wellbutrin and valium as needed for a long time now. She chimes in about Valium. "Let's talk about it". I know that means "I ain't writing for that shite". She makes a valid point that if my use of Valium is increasing it might be time for a change. I figure she may be right and I am open for a change.
Now I'd like input from prescribers and poor bastards like me. Here I see what she did. Change Wellbutrin ("poor choice for anxiety") to Zoloft. And change Valium 5mg to klonipin 0.5mg. She feels while All are ripe for abuse, but Valium is worse than klonipin to her?
This is solid. Benzodiazapines lead to rebound effects. They really should not be used on a regular basis. If used at all, it should be on rare occasions, preferably in the evening. Wellbutrin is a stimulating antidepresant. It works well for symptoms of lethargy, hypersomnia, and anhedonia, and loss of motivation. It is contraindicated for anxiety and Bipolar I disorder because can actually trigger mania or an anxiety attack.
Give the Zoloft some time. It can take several weeks for it to reach maximum efficacy. If it doesn't help, or if the side effects are awful, ask to try a different SSRI. It can take several tries to find the right one. In my experience, Paxil (paroxetine) works best for generalized anxiety.

I also strongly advise this as well. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is just as effective at treating Anxiety Disorders as medications are. The success rate is like 85% when the two treatments are used in combination.

shite. When they were made they were a “cure all” (1950-1960s).
“Mothers Little Helper”.
Much like opium in a previous century. Lol

They were the only medication available for anxiety (other than alcohol) for a long time. In hindsight, Xanax was probably one of the worst medications ever created.

as bad as xanax is, it is better than just about any of the barbiturates.

I expect some John Waynes in this thread. I probably was him before the age of 33? 32?
I do not wish a full blown panic attack upon him. No reason, but every chemical that fires in your body when you are running from a hatchet murderer suddenly fires for no reason?

Why don't you quit relying on pills for all your problems? You think having anxiety and being depressed isn't normal? I'm sure almost everyone gets anxiety and depressed.
And yes, I would look for withdrawals from those pills. How long have you been taking them daily? For years?
Zoloft has some horrible side effects, which is kinda funny that they want to put you on it. You have to have more going on than just anxiety to get that?
Also, do you enjoy taking pills daily, for the rest of your life? If so, don't sweat it.

Here's a real idiot, folks. Everybody gets a little down or anxious but the OP is talking full blown, biochemical panic attacks. That is not normal, at all.
quote:More ignorance on parade. Zoloft is indicated for Panic Disorder and other anxiety disorders. No, you don't need more going on than that.

So medication should be withheld from a soldier who has a severe case of PTSD?
