Read the life360 policy I posted on pg4 and see they are selling even more of your data, for example "driving analytics services". At least some people still get upset about such stuff.

I think its funny you think you are so special that anyone really cares about your specific data. They likely don't. Its when you get millions and millions of data points that it starts to add up.
If you don't have a single app on your phone that has some sort of cookies or tracking, good for you. But you are also living about 10 years behind technology that likely could make your life a hell of a lot easier.
Google maps is free and I've used the shite out of it. If they get some data back from me for free, I'll call that a win for me.

what's weird is that people pay for a service that is free already in iOS.

You're conflating two diferent topics. We're not talking about social norms; we're talking about childrens need to roam free away from their parents watchful eyes.
Our grandparents & great-grandparents were not sitting around monitoring everywhere & everything their children were going & doing.

360 is much much better than the iOS. Its much faster, better tracking, etc.
I haven't been on 360 in probably 2 weeks. But I feel better knowing I have that added benefit of knowing where my teenage daughter and wife are. It has nothing to do with controlling their location, but about using technology to help them stay safe. If that makes me a bad person, so be it.
My wife and daughter use it probably weekly to find a lost device or locate each other in a crowded place like a junior high football game.

Only because they couldn't.

Is it really helping them “stay safe" or is it just scratching that control itch?

You’re going to have to explain this to me. How is you knowing their every move helping them “stay” safe?

The problem is that many of you aren't even really raising your kids. You're just full time babysitters. Doing everything you can to protect them from any potential harm instead of letting them grow and learn from life experiences to become emotionally mature and self sufficient adults. You do it for your own piece of mind and honestly it's extremely selfish.

Me and the wife leave location on on find my. I don’t really care if she knows where I am. Not like I’m doing anything I shouldn’t. If it gives her a little extra peace of mind to check in on me if she’s worried about something/just wants to, cool.

Some of you are so proud of your ignorance.

Kenn Dahl says he has always been a careful driver. The owner of a software company near Seattle, he drives a leased Chevrolet Bolt. He’s never been responsible for an accident.
So Mr. Dahl, 65, was surprised in 2022 when the cost of his car insurance jumped by 21 percent. Quotes from other insurance companies were also high. One insurance agent told him his LexisNexis report was a factor.

I have a map program on my phone that isn't run by the biggest ad firm in the world. It isn't quite as good as Gmaps but it works fine enough.

While I agree with you, this shows your/our age. Kids these days and probably the last decade or so expect NO privacy. Most of the social media sites allow them to track each other. But it's also the "what if" argument you can see in some of the comments. "What if their car slides off the road?" or "What if they are in trouble?" Also same reason some parents have their kids in $80k cars in high school. "What if they are in a wreck and I don't have them in the safest thing possible?" Bottom line it is more about the parents and no one bothers to ask what kind of kids are we raising. More and more these kids aren't "launching" and these same parents can't figure out why.

I'll track my wife when she meets her friends for their annual girls trip on the coast...
I'll see her doing like 90 on I-10.... Lead Foot...
