His good friend Tolkien gets a lot more press but I have always been a Lewis fan.

Grew up on the Narnia series

But Screwtape letters is a particular favorite

Screwtape as read by John Cleese

I loved the inventiveness of Lewis using a demon's perspective to illustrate the weakness and frailty of the human condition

Till We Have Faces is probably my favorite work of his. Of course, I love Screwtape too and The Great Divorce, even if it's kind of Dante's Divine Comedy and Bunyon's The Pilgrams Progress restated.

Pretty inventive, but have you read the one he wrote while mourning his dead wife? Holy shite, that's hard to read but well worth it. I don't know if anyone else would be capable of writing such a thing.

I'm blanking in the name....

A few years ago, I read the whole Narnia series for the first time (never read them as a kid) and then checked out a bunch of books from the library which over-analyzed them. Very interesting perspectives given. My favorite was The Last Battle, but I also really liked The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Something about seeking and finding Aslan's country, I guess.

I've never read anything else by him. I may have to find a copy of The Screwtape Letters, but I wonder if it's too theological for my tastes? Narnia had just enough for me.

Meh, I wouldn't bother unless you're really into the bible. I think he has a lot more to offer than that, but I've known people who really enjoyed it so different strokes.

I've read, yes I'll work on a link, that CS Lewis and Dr. Tolkien were colleagues and friends. Both Narnia and Middle Earth came from an agreement between the two to attempt to create a new mythological epic. They were both Arthurian/mythology fanboys for a Mack of a better term.

Imagine the conversation. Hello mate, let's write two of the greatest fantasy series in the English language history
