Records: Alleged shooter in Sept. homicide shot teen over stolen PlayStation
So who is Wilfred Celestine?
What are the details of that shooting?
Bunny Friend Park mass shooting ignited by argument, NOPD detective testifies
What was Celestine's sentence in this shooting?
Another guilty plea leaves 1 defendant left in Bunny Friend Park mass shooting case
Gotta love the plea bargains in violent cases
So this guy was sentenced to 8 years in prison for a mass shooting and he was out in less than 3 years to shoot again...this time to kill.
They sure rehabilitated him
And the being out in less than 3 years is also interesting because:
The earliest he should have even been eligible to be released is this December, but nah, frick that....lets let him out early
And we wonder why we have a violent crime problem in this state
Louisiana, Ladies & Gentlemen
quote:
The man accused in a September fatal shooting in Scotlandville acted out of anger over a stolen PlayStation when he shot and killed Jaquincy Ross, 18, according to police.
Wilfred Celestine, 22, was arrested Tuesday on one count each of second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm.
quote:
Court documents released Wednesday reveal new details about the Scotlandville shooting. Witnesses familiar with the circumstances surrounding the shooting told police that Celestine was retaliating against Ross, who had stolen a PlayStation just hours earlier from another apartment in his complex, according to the arrest warrant.
So who is Wilfred Celestine?

His most recent arrest occurred not long after he was released from prison for his role in a New Orleans mass shooting three years earlier.
What are the details of that shooting?
Bunny Friend Park mass shooting ignited by argument, NOPD detective testifies
quote:
The mass shooting that left 17 people wounded last November at Bunny Friend Park in the Upper 9th Ward was touched off by a "verbal altercation" between members of rival groups, the lead investigator on the case testified Monday (June 27).
New Orleans police detective Chad Cockerham said an argument between Wilfred Celestine and several other men, including wheelchair-bound Rashad Walker, erupted into a gunfight that left members of the rival factions and several bystanders injured.
Celestine was part of a group known as the Park Boyz, Cockerham said, while Walker represents the Killa Mafia Gang, explaining his nickname "KMG Ezzy." Cockerham said other groups also were represented among the 10 suspects indicted following the shameful Sunday night conflict that sent bullets flying across a crowded public park around 6:15 p.m. on Nov. 22.
What was Celestine's sentence in this shooting?
Another guilty plea leaves 1 defendant left in Bunny Friend Park mass shooting case

Wilfred "Lil' Wilfred" Celestine, 21, pleaded guilty Tuesday (Jan. 31) to a reduced charge of reckless discharge of a firearm at a parade or demonstration, court records show. The statute relates to the reckless or criminally negligent discharge of a firearm within 1,000 feet of any parade, demonstration or gathering for which a permit is issued by a governmental entity.
Criminal District Judge Robin Pittman sentenced Celestine to eight years in prison
quote:
Celestine faced 10 to 20 years had he been convicted as charged of firing a weapon during a violent crime. The amended charge to which he agreed to plead guilty carried a penalty ranging from 5 to 15 years

They sure rehabilitated him
And the being out in less than 3 years is also interesting because:
quote:
The eight-year sentence contained within the state's plea agreement, approved by Pittman, requires Celestine to serve the first three years without the possibility of probation or parole. He will be credited with time served since his December 2015 arrest.
The earliest he should have even been eligible to be released is this December, but nah, frick that....lets let him out early
And we wonder why we have a violent crime problem in this state

Meanwhile the nola da is telling guys they should be thankful to get out after 12 years for pot possession convictions

I saw this the other day. It's a damn shame. I bet he will still get out at some point after this latest incident.
If I was the family of Ross, I'd sue the shite out of the lawyers, DAs, judges, city, parish, and state officials involved with the plea deal in the first case.

Violent criminals get this type of treatment but someone who has been caught with 3 pills of differing Rx get 10 years no parole at the same time. Stupid AF. Thanks for the interesting read.

The fact they let the shooter out in under 3 years and he turned around in no time and killed Ross.

I blame the lack of education for the crime problem. Everyone knows the prison capital of the world is way too lenient on crime.

Celestine was involved with gang violence and injured 17 people. He is only in jail for 3 years due to a plea deal. After he gets out for "good behavior", he gets angry and kills Ross.
I am not condoning Ross if he robbed him first but this POS, Celestine, should have still been in jail.

A stolen playstation is a legit reason to shoot someone. I'd be lenient on him too.

Here are another couple of local examples that I have pointed out before:

Timothy Washington is charged with the second-degree murder of Southern student and rapper Sheena Marie Barnett.
The 47-year-old suspect has an extensive RAP sheet that includes rape and manslaughter charges.
This guy has raped and killed people, yet was out walking around the streets of Baton Rouge
quote:
suspect charged with shooting up a house in Glen Oaks
quote:
Julius Thomas was one of two men arrested earlier this week for a shooting in the Glen Oaks area, but this isn't his first run-in with the law. He was sentenced for negligent homicide less than two years ago.
In November 2009, District Court Judge Richard D. Anderson sentenced Thomas to 10 years behind bars for the deaths of Brandon and Hillary Soileau, killed during a robbery at their house. But instead of serving his entire sentence for negligent homicide, Thomas was released in November 2010, just one year later.
Spent the grand total of one year in jail for killing TWO people during a robbery....basically 6 months per victim

No no no you're looking at this all wrong. The judicial system uses common core math. So, subtract the 7, carry the 4, and he has actually served a 16 year sentence. That means he has 19 years to count towards his murder charge. Assuming he gets 15 years, he still has served too much time in the eyes of the courts. Maybe he can go commit a few armed robberies to even it out. Looks like he is the real victim here.
Gotta love Baton Rouge.

If you've ever gotten out of jury duty you've got no room to complain. If you think the system is broken, do something instead of complaining about it on a message board.

A few years ago there was a case in BR that I remember making my stomach turn at the time. This fine upstanding citizen decided to beat the ever living hell out of his girlfriend and was given a pretty lienent sentence (imo). Completely unremorseful, told the judge his only regret was that he didn't kill her. Arresting officer made the remark that he had said similar to him as well. Well turns out even for a piece of shite he was a man of his word. Hes released well ahead of schedule and within a week she is dead. The judge didn't even bother to notify her that he was out of jail. I remember that some couldn't understand how it could happen, she had a restraining order.
We have some of the worst judges in the country and it doesn't appear that there is a damn thing we can do about it.

Yes, I understand you are of the opinion that he should have still been in jail. However, your assertion that you would "sue the shite" out of the judge, DA, lawyers, and governmental agencies involved in the first case is extremely ignorant. You believing his sentence was too lenient does not make any of those people liable for the death of Mr. Ross - which, as it turns out, noone has been convicted of.

Putting aside we spend one 10K a year on educating these dregs, how much education can a low IQ, cognitively deficient population absorb?
We know math and grammar are racist, science is merely a social construct. Not acting like a violent arse in school is for fools. Who exactly is wasting those precious minds?
