Edwards is proud that he lowered the number of people behind bars in La. Don't forget that.

So are you saying the jury convicted him and then set him loose?

Nothing like another thread where people complain about how shitty Louisiana is but refuse to move.

Yes, I understand you are of the opinion that he should have still been in jail. However, your assertion that you would "sue the shite" out of the judge, DA, lawyers, and governmental agencies involved in the first case is extremely ignorant. You believing his sentence was too lenient does not make any of those people liable for the death of Mr. Ross - which, as it turns out, noone has been convicted of

If someone challenged the people and actually won, maybe you would see serious sentences for serious crimes.

He PLED. The jury never heard the case... DAs get enough equittals from having no quality jurors available to hear a case so the chose to get a plea deal.

You could put the Louisiana justice system in Vermont and Vermont wouldn’t be violent

What does jury duty have to do with the OP complaining about a bad plea deal?

You are looking even worse man.

People getting out of jury caused the DA to take a plea?

A lot of this also is on the victims in previous cases. If they dont push the DA and want to go to court to up the ante, the criminals get off easy.

I got robbed at gunpoint and carjacked years ago in Nola. This was the guys 3rd time getting caught for armed robbery and about the 10th+ time he had been arrested.

The DA said I could come into town multiple times to go to court and get the guy 10 to 15 years. I had already missed some school and work because of this and didnt want to miss a bunch more. I went to court once, had the DA handle it, and the guy got 4 years. He got out in 3. Whatever

The way to do that would be elect different judges and DAs. Not sue them. You would have no cause of action to sue those people in this scenario and your lawsuit would be thrown out with a swiftness.

So was he under Judge Trudy White’s supervision? Wrote a letter saying he was sorry in return for being freed a few year early? Out society, especially in Louisiana, is SO screwed.

I agree in electing different judges. How people like Trudy continue to be elected is beyond my comprehension. Actually, no it's not. The people that vote for her LOVED her video about criminals going home early under Trudy. I wish it was just that easy to vote them out, but in all honesty it isn't because criminals want people like Trudy in the seat.

If I look bad, I guess I'll just double down on ugly...

My point is, DAs rely on juries to get verdicts. If you have a difficult time getting normal people to serve as jurors your chances of convictions are severely hampered.

For example, a few years ago, in a small town in rural LA, the local sheriff's office conducted a raid search warrant of a known multiple time convicted felon drug dealer. In his house, in his night stand, next to the bed he was in when then entered the house, they found a pistol, and a tin of crack. The crack was under the man's wallet with his drivers license in it. Clearly, in my opinion, enough evidence for a conviction. The DA had a difficult time selecting a jury and had to have 2 jury pools to seat 12 + 2 alternates. After the acquittal, during a discussion the foreman of the jury explained they voted the way they did because they were fortunate enough to have a self professed expert in drug storage and distribution who explained that only law enforcement stores crack the way it was found so clearly it must have been planted by the corrupt LEOs and if the drugs were planted so was the gun.

TLDR: if the DA can't trust getting a jury without prejudices toward criminals, you get more plea deals. If the criminals know this they won't take normal plea deals and are either willing to take a chance with a jury for an acquittal or wait for a more favorable plea deal, tying up the system longer, leading to those without knowledge of the system complaining about how long it takes to handle a case.
