Ask them about global warming. If they have been around a while they might know.

If they are watching me, they’d be bored pretty quick. I doubt they would be watching individuals. Maybe ,trends on our planet like taking out the Amazon jungles.

No, it just cements that we are being lied to by every monotheistic religion, ever.

How so? Where I’m the Bible does it say we’re the only life in the universe?

We have all been constantly surveilled/ monitored for at least 30 years by our own government.
Rest assured that whatever aliens are doing the same have far more regard for the sanctity of your life than does your govt.
In short, what difference do three more eyes watching the monitor make ?

I remember this quote from the late Stephen Hawking:

"If aliens visit us, the outcome would be much as when Columbus landed in America, which didn't turn out well for the Native Americans. We only have to look at ourselves to see how intelligent life might develop into something we wouldn't want to meet."

Where does it say we aren't?

Why do you put stock into a book that has been re-written countless times over the centuries yet people still think is perfect? Just like everything else on earth, every church and every version of the bible is not complete or referenced, thus it is not germane to the discussion. Sure religion is based on that book, great. So organized religion is equally flawed, at best. Further corrupted by people. Those people would be unmasked as frauds if aliens were proven to exist. Of course the Vatican has stated that we would welcome them as brothers in Christ, but that is just hedging bets that the god they believe in created the aliens.

What if Vishnu created the aliens and the God of Israel is just a fart in the wind? Ra, The god of the Sun may have created them with help from Zeus and Odin. If you entertain the idea that humanity could be completely fricking wrong on "the" higher power(s) that exist, your gotcha question becomes nothing more than the mewing of a disillusioned sheep.

Other than that I have no feelings on the matter.

Why do other life forms automatically eliminate the possibility of God?

Never said it does, just that we have been lied to by officials of organized religion.

Don't "eliminate" your reading comprehension in a gotcha effort.

Did it dawn on you that if aliens are capable of interstellar travel they may have an insurmountable technological advantage over us in a war?

Both. I would be comforted knowing that there are other intelligent beings trying to figure out the meaning of this slush of physics and particles. Maybe they would have more answers.

Does that make the idea of God bigger?

Smaller. Our spiritual beliefs are mostly predicated on the uniqueness of the human species. No one goes around saying Jesus died for caterpillars to get into heaven. It’s about our advanced intellect and ability to comprehend and worship God. An alien species that is as intelligent or more intelligent would eliminate our standing as an organism.

quote:

Does it make you want to break every societal norm and go around kicking everyone in the nuts?

No. In fact the opposite. Aliens should confirm that we are a singular species that needs to band together. Not so much out of fear of war but because we are no longer limited by special and righteous dogma and culture.

quote:

Do you like the idea of being "monitored" like a trout in a lake?

We monitor ourselves. Government jokes/comments aside, we perform sociological studies all the time regarding human beings. Why would an alien study be any different?

What fascinates me about aliens is the idea of something truly alien to our intellect. The majority of our concepts of aliens are just an earth-based idea that’s mutated. A humanoid that has a large cranium with big eyes and a small mouth. Slugs with four eyes. Oversized bugs with carbon-based spaceships. It’s all just caricatures of what we know on earth.

True aliens would be beyond comprehension, IMO. It’s why I like movies like Annihilation or The Arrival. It’d be shite we couldn’t understand.

It doesn't but it does.

There's the whole souls and image thing.

And then there's the being really honest with each other about religion if both sides have a bunch of sects.

And there's the K'daptist type option wear they turn out violent and we kick their arse somehow, they might start scalping human faces for praying to God to trick him to their side.
