Two boys I know whose parents left them uncircumcised, asked to get it done when they were old enough. Both said it was horribly painful but 100% worth it. They both felt extremely self-conscience about being uncircumcised.

Circumcision is dying out in America. If my sons were born 20 years later, since it'd be even more uncommon, I probably would've opted them out. The guys in school who were uncircumcised were known for it, and not in a good way. It's nowhere near as uncommon as it used to be when I was in school.

I've a friend who had to get circumcised in his 40s, and he said he was a pretty brutal procedure and recovery

He said the worst part of it though, was the drastic decrease in feeling when having sex. He said it's night and day difference and that men like myself have no idea what we've missed out on. He's not the only one I've heard say that who had to get circumcised later on in life.

Sex and jacking off feels a lot better and is more fluid. Thats why religions like Judaism adopted circumcision because it is a sacrifice to God

I watched a documentary that had a lot to say with regard to decreased sensation- it makes sense.

There's also botched jobs, revisions, taking a little too much and having issues later on in adulthood.

One of my nephews was botched and needed a revision- it was kinda awful. I don't think it happens TOO often, but yikes!

You realize the title of the thread is “less than half”, right? When young boys today reach sexual maturity, the girls they’re with will more likely than not have seen it at least 50% of the time if they’ve had two partners

I think Jews don't take as much foreskin off as American procedures do- it's been awhile since I've looked it up, though.

2% of all circumcisions need revisions.

That among many reasons is why I left my son intact.

I gotta tell ya, this is not a topic I’d ever concern myself with.

Shame that society made them so self conscious they needed surgery. Not so different than women getting breast augmentation to feel accepted

That's another concern I had when deciding. If it were completely up to my wife she would've forgone it, and if she really insisted, I'd have agreed, but that ain't the way we roll, so we decided to go on ahead and do it with our two.

I just know, as a man, what I saw a few guys put up with in elementary school when we were all pissing in the goat trough urinal. I didn't want to make it any harder on my two than life already is, (plus there are some marginal benefits to having it done). One was always a strange kid, but the others were average/ above average attractive young athletes, and them being uncircumcised severely cut their prospects of getting some tail back then. It sucks, it ain't right, and I've heard it's not as bad as it used to be (that goes for all body positivity and bullying), but it is what it is.

And yeah, my buddy was legitimately depressed for awhile with how little sensation he had after the surgery. Said it damn near ruined his libido and desire to have sex with his wife because it felt like his penis was only half there.

My sister is a pediatric nurse, sent her this link and she said that’s bullshite, they always throw these numbers out there and they’re always super low. She’s sent me this from the CDC:

National trends
Across the 32-year period from 1979 through 2010, the national rate of newborn circumcision declined 10% overall, from 64.5% to 58.3% (Table and Figure 1). During this time, the overall percentage of newborns circumcised during their birth hospitalization was highest in 1981 at 64.9%, and lowest in 2007 at 55.4%.

Well, I mean my parents had me snipped as an infant.

I couldn’t walk for about a year but I ended up being OK

It's a hard decision to make- a lot of strong opinions on both sides as well as the "fitting in" aspect and later sexual prospects.

I *am* glad more parents are thinking about it rather than just doing what's always been done. No matter what they ultimately choose.

Why are Jewish men circumcised?

Because Jewish women won't touch anything unless it's 20 percent off!

I just told this joke to my wife.

She hung up on me.

A lot of parents do it just because they think thats what youre supposed to do. They dont think too much about it.

It is one of the strangest socially accepted norms imo.

Not as strong as opinions on vaccines. But yes
