RIP. Pioneer of a lot of biological discovery, not to mention several memes on the OT.

quote:

Legendary chimpanzee researcher Jane Goodall has died, the conservation organization she founded announced on Oct. 1.

Goodall, 91, died due to natural causes while she was in California on a cross-country speaking tour, according to The Jane Goodall Institute.

"Dr. Goodall’s discoveries as an ethologist revolutionized science, and she was a tireless advocate for the protection and restoration of our natural world," the organization said in statement on social media.

She was quite a babe when she was younger too.

I know you're about to get some jokes in this thread, but JG was an incredible woman. Her story is very uplifting and a great read.

She's now hand and hand with Harambe at the big house in the sky.

She was sadly an anti-human Malthusian in her later years.

For some reason, I thought she was murdered. I confused her with Dian Fossey.

Goodall:

Fossey, who really was murdered.

Thanks for bringing that to my memory - the real life story is even better (from wiki Far Side entry):

quote:

Goodall herself was in Africa at the time, and the Jane Goodall Institute felt the cartoon was in bad taste; the organization had its lawyers draft a letter to Larson and his distribution syndicate, in which the cartoon was labeled an "atrocity." These efforts were stymied by Goodall herself when she returned and saw the cartoon and stated that she found it amusing,[45] commenting "It all helps to put us humans in our place, and we desperately need putting in our place."[47] Since then, all profits from sales of a shirt featuring this cartoon go to the Jane Goodall Institute. Goodall wrote a preface to The Far Side Gallery 5, detailing her version of the controversy, and the institute's letter was included next to the cartoon in the complete Far Side collection.[48] She praised Larson's creative ideas, which often compare and contrast the behavior of humans and animals.[49]

She must have been a great person, intelligent, and a sense of humor.
