Why is smoking pot such a huge issue for the younger generation?

It's a referendum on the failures of prohibition and a backlash against propaganda.

It's about individual freedom

It's not the cops. It's the owners of the prisons. Who can pay off anyone they need to.

So you're going with the gateway drug argument? Do you not think that alcohol is a gateway drug, too?

The first time I tried pot I was drunk.

OK? Got any more anecdotes to scare us all?

I guess we're just gonna ignore the possibility of alcohol being a gateway too, 'cause if you say that you ain't 'Merican.

I doubt many people have tried pot before alcohol. This guy that thinks pot should stay illegal probably drinks, too.

I can't remember who it was, but a comedian had a bit about the "gateway drug" BS and it was something along the lines of "I've never gotten stoned and thought it would be a good idea to snort coke off the hood of my car in public."

fwiw everybody has a certain "level" of displacement from reality that they will seek when they are partying

some need more than others

even if you take pot out of the equation completely the people who need more of an "escape" from reality will find their way to the heavy hitters; like meth, herione, and such even if they don't have pot to start off with

Agreed, alcohol is much more of a gateway drug than pot.

Do you have a list of which drugs are acceptable and which ones aren't?

its given such a bad reputation, but movies and shows make it out to look like a causal activity. For instance you were taught that pot will ruin your future, but yet you watch that 70's show where kids are just hanging out in a basement having fun. Now you think its not so destructive, you smoke it and feel great, no hangover. So you don't understand why alcohol is legal but pot isnt. You also find out that there's medicinal use, natural grown. So why is it illegal?

This is false. MJ funds most of their hard drug operations. Take away their MJ profits and the rest will take a hit.

I did a little quick research, and there seems to be conflicting information. One study by RAND seems to indicate that meth and coke each make up a much higher percentage of revenues than MJ, while others seem to believe that MJ alone makes up potentially 70% of revenues. Oh well...
