LeBron James is launching a voting rights organization that aims to inspire African Americans to register to vote and go to the polls for the 2020 presidential election this November, the New York Times reports.

What he''s saying: “Because of everything that’s going on, people are finally starting to listen to us — we feel like we’re finally getting a foot in the door,” James told the Times in a Wednesday phone interview.

"How long is up to us. We don’t know. But we feel like we’re getting some ears and some attention, and this is the time for us to finally make a difference," James told the Times.

ETA: Hong Kong activist calls him out

quote:

Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong accused LeBron James of hypocrisy after the NBA superstar moved to form a group supporting black voting rights in the U.S.

quote:

Joshua Wong
@joshuawongcf

Defending democracy is vital, but @KingJames only talks loud in the US. On China, not only is he silent, he actively shuts others up. He called @dmorey "misinformed" and "not really educated" for supporting #HongKong. All he cares about is money, not human rights. Hypocritical.

James is going in a correct direction with this.

So many sacrificed for them to have the right. Use it.

It will be I tersting to see if he has the balls to come out against every police chief, city council member, and mayor as the root of the problem or if he goes to the default OMB.

It will be even more interesting to see if he denounces the Black Panthers for their voter suppression and intimidation efforts.

Well to be fair, the left doesn't have enough cars and cash to get every black person to the polls and then tell them exactly who to vote for

As long as they educate themselves on the issues and the history of the issues this is a good thing.

Let me guess. In the same breath that he complains about decades of oppression he will then tell them to vote for Biden.
And we are the uneducated ones?
