Just had my mother in law throw a hissy fit because the seat cover was down when she needed to use the bathroom. Apparently its common practice at their house to leave the cover up. Just letting that toilet bowl air mix into the room.

How common is this gross practice? Im one to put that thing down before I even flush. This just caught me off guard

Tell her it's not her house and she can GTFO if she doesn't like it.

Is this a thing? Do you have some super seal seat on your toilet? I mean, there’s usually a gap in the bowl and the seat, so the air isn’t gonna stay trapped in there.

Always leave mine up at the house. Shits going to mix with the air anyway. That’s what courtesy flushes are for.

I tried to get my wife to put the lid down but she would never do it.

The lid is there for a reason. No one wants to walk in a bathroom and look into a poo hole.

Leave the cover up as she’s asked, and stop flushing after you leave a coil.

The vast majority of the times I enter a bathroom, the poo hole is PRECISELY what I'm there to see.

It’s easier for them to put it down.

Gravity does the work. That’s science

Im not saying it's preventing 100% of poo air but it's definitely better than 0%

The lid is actually there to be closed before flushing because tiny water droplets fly out if it's up

Your bathroom is covered in fecal matter. Research it.

If it's ok to leave the cover up then it's ok to leave the seat up.
