The most efficient bet is actually the dark side. Don't pass/come with max odds bet gives the house the lowest edge posssible. However, it is not as much fun and odds of getting into a fight increases exponentially if heavu drinking is involved.

I've never played craps before.

I'm not one for gambling. Never saw the appeal.

I do enjoy blackjack though.

Thanks Charley, but in the spirit of full disclosure let me also state that I can only make my original post because I was a borderline craps junkie at one point. And not to crap on OP’s thread bc he is likely just looking for simple pointers as it relates to entertainment.

That being said I still have not met one person to this day that could look me in the eye and say they were a professional craps player. Even the most disciplined of folks still give the house 1-2% which is all they need. And let’s be honest, for most folks once the drinks flow so do the additional sucker bets.

I seem to take just long of a break in between betting that I am just outside of my ability to remember the rules and have to be taught every damn time.

I got paid big on the crapless craps table at the Beau Rivage on Saturday. Hit the 2 as my point with $50 on the odds, BOOM! $300 win. Left the table up a couple thousand.

What are these bets?

Sucker bets or bets you make when you have a couple of adult beverages. Hard ways are fun when they hit but should be avoided if you want to actually make money. If you have $100 or so to blow on $5 Fire bets be my guest, but they rarely pay out enough to make it worth your while.

Like some others have said, don't be afraid to play the don't pass line and then back your bet when necessary. I mostly play that way unless the dice are passed to me, then I switch to betting the right way.
If you want to play the numbers stick to 6 and 8 unless you have a favorite number or combo. Big 6 and Big 8 are worthless and should be avoided. Even the dealers will tell you this mutch. I tend to favor 5 and 9 when I play that side. Avoid making any positive reactions when you win on a don't pass bet, unless the whole table is playing that way (I've been a part of that a couple of times).

Have fun and ask questions. The dealers are required to be honest with you about the odds and bets.

I load the table, placing a come bet when possible, and maxing out on the odds bets. You can do pretty well, or you can lose a lot in a hurry, but if you do it right, you reduce the house edge to next to nothing.

An Asian pit boss explained to me a few ways to cut the edge even further in certain betting situations.

ETA: Oh, and if you are betting a system, place some bets "for the boys." A dealer who likes you will keep you from missing bets.

That would be late bet / hands on the table guy. A dollar for every time that I've seen the dice hit this guy's hand, forcing the shooter to 7 out...and having people want to follow him outside after and beat his arse.

Just keep betting the "come" bet and backing with 2x odds. That's the exact same as a pass bet, you'll just get another "point" to work with.

So come out roll is a 6. Point is a 6. Bet a come bet. Next roll is a 8. Now you have a 6 and 8. Bet one more come bet and take your chances a 7 doesn't hit.

When the table gets hot, press your odds.

Same thing for the guy who drunkenly cheers when shooters crap out. If you go on a run betting don't pass and celebrate, people want to fight.

The come bet is the last thing that a novice wants to do.
It is not as a good bet as the place bet.
The shooter has control of his place bets.
The number has to be made two time for a payoff.
The shooter can win and loose when the seven shows which leads to mixed emotions.

Book the house for one roll only.

Here is the math:
36 combinations of the dice.
6 ways to make a seven.
5 ways to make a six and 5 ways to make an 8.

Place Bet the six and eight; you have ten ways to win and only six ways to lose. 62.5% opportunity to win the decision. (If you keep it up you will have won seven dollars to the six that you risked on each number but the percentage of getting two hits before the seven shows is reduced to 39%. Just a suggestion.

Disclaimer - my post is not a strategic post and is only a recommendation to increase the fun factor...

See if the table you are at has the "Small, Tall, and All" bonus bets (typically at the top center of the table from the viewpoint of the stick man).

You can put a dollar on each. Small - you are betting that all of the numbers less than 7 are rolled before a 7 is rolled; Tall - you are betting that all of the numbers greater than 7 are rolled before the 7; All - you are betting that ALL of the numbers are rolled before a 7 is.

I saw this for the first time when I went to Vegas in January 2017. These bets get the table amped up way more than normal. Small and Tall pay out at 34 to 1 and All pays out at something like 175 to 1.

So needless to say, your $3 bet could turn into $243. I played craps for a week while in Vegas for a conference, and going into my last night I was down by a total of $300 or so for the week. Not bad, and I was fine going home at that number considering how many hours I played. In the last hour that I played, I put $5 on each of those bonuses and it hit. That was a fun 30 minutes or so as a number of people had made those bets and we had a hot shooter. It gives you a way to stay interested even if your number bets aren't hitting.

All I know is street craps. 6,8 running mates. 5,9 be on time. 10,4 lil Joe from Tokyo. The first roll gets you point if it isn't a 2,3, or 12, those are crap, auto losses. A roll of 7 or 11 on the first roll and you win. After your point, a roll of 7 craps you out. Side bets can be made on the matching point that i listed above.

Go to your local hood casino for a riveting game of dice.

Did this in Vegas as well, nailed the "All" twice while there. If you are going to be at the craps table for some time, this is worth doing. Like Vinegar said, only $3 and if you hit just once it pays for 81 misses (which would be a crap ton of bad rollers).

Once again though you have to commit, if you do you will hit the small, tall and/or all.
