The conveyance records in the courthouse were mostly saved from the fire. If you have exhausted your search at the courthouse and established that the courthouse fire did in fact destroy the documents you seek, try calling and renting an abstract from an established title abstracter that has Plaquemines parish archives. Frawley, Wogan and Miller did a ton of work in that parish for exploration companies. Most title abstracts start from sovereignty so this may get you what you are looking for.

Those 2 events are why most of Louisiana’s parish clerk of court records back to the early 1800’s have been scanned, indexed, and digitized.

Of course most individual parish clerk of courts sell access to the digital database to the tune of 600-900 dollars a year or 20 dollars a day, plus 1 dollar per page for you to get a printable copy.

It is worth it if you are an attorney, but if you need to access multiple different parish clerk of court databases it can get to be a money racket pretty quickly.

We did see that link you sent. It is one of a few claims, but the Buras claim is not the one she is involved in.

There’s a fascinating sort of interview/debate between him and Bill Buckley you can find on YouTube. It’s a great window into an era and two geographically distinct societies.

She said a company called Delta Development Company and the Parish of Plaquemine were said to be getting the royalties and maybe still are. The Perez`s were said to be part owners of Delta Development Company. Imagine that

yeah, but even the state screwed people out of land too by backing the P family and their cronies. My grandpa long had business dealings in PP. there were 2-3 other companies besides DD whose names escape me now. but if you do a onwer search on much of that land it comes up blank.

It's really a shame what they got away with -

delta development yes. how the parish can claim some of that is beyond me.

I read the book about Perez and quite frankly it’s unbelievable. He was a horrible human and his relatives should be exhiled from the state and stripped of all their ill gotten gains. The exchanges between Perez and Long were noteworthy. Tons of crooked elections, yes men in all facets of parish and state government, and openly racist and hostile behavior to residents. He ruled Plaquemines with an iron fist and the circumstances that allowed people like him and long to reign with little interference are some of what has always held the state back.

She said they thought some of the money was used to partially to run the parish because they had little or no federal funding. They were making good ground on following the money In the 80`s about the time of the courthouse burning and the death threats. She said lady by the name of Marie Loyde was one of the leaders of the heirs involved and had to take cover because of the death threats. The lawyers involved were also shittin in their pants and kind of faded away after that supposed court ruling.

My grandpa was caught up in that lawsuit as we are direct descendants. He would cut checks every so often to lawyers that were working on the cases. He passed away and nobody ever was in the loop of next steps, contacts etc.

Would love to get involved but no idea where to even start.

I hope your family ultimately wins. From what I remember, if it is indeed the same case, the oil companies had set aside money in an escrow account since the 80’s. Last I heard the attorney was trying to see how much was in there but it was suspected to be eight figures at minimum.

Check with the guy below you, he has a contact.
Leander Sr. was actually an heir to this land also but I guess greed and power took over.He was the first cousin of my friends grandmother.
It was called the Cheniere Ronquille tract and the original name on the land grant was Juan Ronquille.
