Leander Perez- Stolen land claim in Plaquemine Parish

Leander Perez- Stolen land claim in Plaquemine Parish
I have an elderly friend that would like to know if there is any ongoing efforts to reclaim land that was claimed to be stolen from them during the reign of Leander Perez Sr. in the 1930`s. It was originally a Spanish land grant. Her grandmother was actually Leanders first cousin. The land was stolen about the time oil and gas well Companies were going to be negotiating with the landowners for royalties. Imagine that. Back in the 80`s when several lawyers were involve in the effort to reclaim the land The courthouse in Pointe a la Hache in Plaquemine Parish mysteriously burned down. Imagine that. Along with death threats. The case was finally dismissed by a judge. She said in the 80`s an estimated amount of over 60 billion dollars in royalties were taken in.
There has been some success in reclaiming land with some other groups in the past in St. Bernard and Plaquemine parish.
She had plenty of documents accumulated for the effort to reclaim the land but the documents were destroyed by Katrina.
It was called the Cheniere Ronquille tract and the original name on the land grant was Juan Ronquille
We have googled around and havn`t found much on that tract.

I’m sure the deed is recorded somewhere. You need to make friends with an insider who can help you locate it. Someone with compassion will help you.

My family had almost 1k acres before Leander. After Leander we had less than 40.
Seems like there’s a lot to this that has been forgotten and intentionally scrubbed. I’ve been told that exact story by elders in the family. I’d really like to know more but have come up with no more than what you wrote. What a shame, greasy arse politicians.

So you have no evidence of the claims and Perez does.
That about sums it up.

the reign of Leander Perez Sr.
He was perhaps the most corrupt and authoritarian elected official in this state's long history of corrupt politicians, a feat that is truly impressive.

I had a feeling someone on the big OT would have known or been personally affected. You may be related to her, there is a pretty good chance. Giordano was the original name on the land grant that was signed by the current president at that time.

Perez was so hated and respected that they renamed a road named in his honor and never changed the name.

They definitely changed the name … just after another Judge Perez. True story

In fairness, there are so many people with the surname "Perez" in St. Bernard Parish, that the odds of another person named "Perez" becoming a judge in the 34th JDC were not that low.

this story sounds like some hullabaloo but Perez and Plauquemines was corrupt AF. Perez made Edwin look like an upstanding citizen and straight-laced politician.

First a fire and then Katrina. I suppose it's not meant to be.

Most of that land was on the east bank of the MS river near bohemia. Much of it was gotten like indian land was bought - much of it outright swindled. it was sold to the orleans levee board - then in 80s with some pressure it was all brought to light and it was actually on the ballot in 85 or 86 to return the land. to this day many of the heirs have not been found.

Rarely, if ever, do you see a Parish government combine an act of political correctness AND fiscal austerity, but they did in this case.
Leander Perez was a corrupt shitbag who fricked many people to enrich a few.
