Lawyers of the OT: need help

Cliffs: Coworker says “are you a fricking idiot?” to girl. Instead of engaging in physical frick you I let it slide. Cooler heads and what not. I then via GroupMe announce I’m going to the zoo. The zoo in Zachary and if anyone wants to tag along come on. He DMs me and says he loves the zoo and would happily join. I then tell him (minor buzz) that if he ever calls her a “fricking idiot” again I will murder him in cold blood. How much potential legal trouble could that “threat” be? If he chose to pursue charges should I lawyer up or just leave well enough alone?

Did you really send a message that can be shown as evidence saying you would threaten to kill him? Then yes, that is worse than calling someone an idiot.

technically it's a terroristic threat and could be considered up to a Class A misdemeanor depending on the circumstances.
But, he would have to prove that he reasonably believed he was in fear for his life and the burden of proof would be upon him to provide evidence that his belief was justified.
He could press criminal charges or civil charges. A prosecutor would probably not even bring the case unless the particular office likes to crack down on petty stuff.
If civil, I doubt any lawyer would be willing to take him on contingent to an award of damages from you. And unless he really fricking hates you, he's not going to pay the fees to bring a case against you.
So, you're probably fine.

Yes you should.
No I do not.
If this is a work chat on a work phone they are all potential HR witnesses. IT can easily validate what you said, who heard it and who read it.
