Wouldda made more sense if you had referred to the room as a formal living room. Which do tend to be a waste of space.

I use my living room more than my own bedroom if you count hours spent in it. Thank god for the open floor plan. You must be living in the 70s

Lawns serve as a recreational area and a buffer zone from other motherfrickers. I built my house with the yard in mind. Plus, most heterosexual men take pride in having a great looking, functional yard.

OP is unknowningly admitting that:

1. He has clear plastic wrapping that covers his couches and chairs
2. He lives in a rundown shanty with little or no grass, but lots of dead cats and rodents laying around
3. He is bitter that he can’t afford a moderate place of residence
4. Nobody EVER comes to visit him where he lives
5. He has a significant amount of trouble starting up a lawnmower

I am going to assume you are confusing the term "living room" with the 1950s/1960s/1970s style of homes that had "formal living rooms" and also, typically, a den.

If that is the case, then yes, the formal living room is a huge waste of space in 2018. The formal living room harkens back to the 1700s to 1920s "sitting rooms" (or parlors) where kids entertained the parents by dancing and parents read to their kids.

Obviously that is really not done anymore, since the invention of the TV. So we knocked down a wall* and joined our den and formal living room (along with the dining room) into a "great room" in our mid-century house in Willow Meadows, Houston.

Note to OP: if yours is a load-bearing wall, as ours was, don't just knock the wall down before installing a beam.

I've never heard of someone not using their living room. I'm sitting in mine right now.

As far as the lawn, I guess an argument can be made regarding the front lawn. We don't use it like that back yard, but we do use it from time to time, and if rather have that option than not have it.

It sounds like you are trying to justify your efficiency apartment.

I am always in my living room. And a nice lawn gives good curb appeal to the house.

You must be poor. I have 2 companies keep up the lawns and gardens on my 25 acre estate.

My formal living room is only 3200 sq. ft. and we do go in there to open Christmas gifts once a year. The staff actually goes in there once a week to dust and several times during December to decorate.

You should move to Kalifornia. I hear lawnmowers will be outlawed by 2020 and by 2022 no homes will be allowed to have a living room.

Be warned though that indoor plumbing will be outlawed there by 2025. Also, the contents of all outhouses must be recycled.
