I took my lawnmower into local shop for a tune up. They sharpened the blade, changed the oil and air filter and gave it a look over. It ended up costing me $120. This seemed high to me. What are y'all baws paying for this service?

I had the same exact thing done last Spring. Sounds like you got a good deal. I paid somewhere around $350.

Baw, you could get a new mower for that

Nothing worse than when it starts warming up in February. 9 months until the end of mowing season.

Damn.. as someone whos' dad owns a grass cutting service...we should've gotten into the mower servicing industry as well... that would've taken about 15 minutes max to do

Come on man, you can't be that incompetent...
I would've done it for $50...

Bout right. I had to learned the hard way. Empty the gas at the end of season. Change oil your self. Save that cash.

Was this a zero turn or a cheapo push mower? Quart of oil and a filter is probably less than 15 bucks. Labor time should have been less than 15 minutes for a push mower.

Considering OP had to take it in to get it done AND didn't ask about price beforehand, yeah that's about right.
But yeah as said that's about 20 minutes of labor for someone experienced and $30 in parts max. So that's super high.

It's pretty much at least $85-90 just to look at it. Anything like materials and actual work is added to that. You got away with a steal if its tuned up and running right for that price. PLUS you have it ready for grass cutting now. Most people are going to discover they need a repair the first time they try to cut grass. Then they'll be in line for weeks to get the work done.

If you think anyone is going to only charge 15 minutes labor, you are crazy

I'll ask Manuel. But probably $3.50

Pays $120 to have someone sharpen a blade and pour some liquid, but won't pay Owlie to cut his grass...

Add oil, spray seafoam, boom tuned up.

Don't forget to change that $2.00 spark plug either.

While I agree with that, he was also ripped off. Most good (key word good) shops will have something like an off season tune up where they do things like this. They usually run special pricing for that, as there is no hurry and can do it at their convenience. Plus it doesn't take that long. OP got like $10-20 in parts and under 30 minutes of labor most likely. If the standard rate is $80/ hour then a lot of shops will cut you a break and do this for like $75 plus parts. I would have expected under $100 before tax for that.
