Between this and the fact that over half of Louisiana attorneys are over the age of 50, it looks like I'm going to be an OT Baller after all.

Mostly, but not entirely.

One other thing. There is an entire industry being built on the audit of legal bills. They arbitrarily cut your time and there is nothing you can do about it. You bend over and you take it.

One of my former clients who is a fortune 100, has a software system they run bills through to flag time the software says should be cut.

Because there is such a glut of lawyers and the insurance companies know they can take their business elsewhere if you balk at the audit.

I would have already gotten out if I would have gone to an insurance defense firm right out of school.

I'm not miserable, but I also like what I do. I got a little niche. As with every one else though, you can be booted from your niche with a quickness at moment's notice.

As for the robot AIs taking over. Well, when we reach that kind of technology don't think for one second the "physical" aspect of many jobs won't be replaced either, so telling me I'm screwed when you're screwed too doesn't get us anywhere with that.

Robots taking attorney jobs are the least of my worries.

Every profession is fricked in the impending robot apocalypse. Not exclusive to the legal community. As long as our robot overlords give me an office with a window, I'm good.

The truth is finally out there and the Law Schools have been exposed and hampered in their efforts to distort the hiring rates.

Lots of folks with law degrees and school loans not working as attorneys.

I'm not telling you you are screwed. I'm telling you that most lawyers hate being lawyers (even the wealthy ones) and it isn't just because of the over saturation. It is because the job is often just miserable.

That sounds like an exaggeration. Are there really hundreds of thousands of unemployed lawyers? I find that hard to believe.

ETA: Quick internet search reveals there are ~1,000,000 lawyers in the US. So I doubt there are as many unemployed as you suggest.

The profession does shite to protect itself by letting douchebag attorneys write laws to protect their own, endorsing the existence of 50-100 worthless and unneeded law schools and embracing a narcissistic view of the profession as a way of life rather than...a profession.
