Law schools across the country are facing their lowest enrollment numbers in years, causing some to slash their budgets and revamp their programs in an effort to attract students worried about finding a job in a diminished legal industry.
Nearly 46,000 people have applied so far to go to an accredited U.S. law school in the most recent admissions cycle, a figure that puts applications on track to hit just short of 53,000 total. By comparison, there were a total of 77,000 applicants in 2010 and 90,000 in 2004, according to the Law School Admission Council. Even top-ranked Harvard Law School witnessed a drop in applications before rebounding in the last two years.
Poor enrollment is hurting the bottom line at some schools. Washington and Lee’s School of Law said it plans to cut 12 positions, while Western Michigan University’s Thomas M. Cooley Law School delivered pink slips to more than half of its faculty and staff members last summer.

Between this and the fact that over half of Louisiana attorneys are over the age of 50, it looks like I'm going to be an OT Baller after all.

Probably the market adjusting. From what I hear, it's pretty saturated at the moment.

Every time I see an old judge or lawyer I just want to grab them and scream, "WHY WON'T YOU DIE YET?!?!"

AI lawyers will do the same job for pennies an hour, baw.

Schools are doing that on purpose.
Sad thing is many lawschools wouldn't have budget problems even with the smaller classes if the main undergrad/grad school campuses they're tied to didn't suck up all their money

This is fantastic news for everyone in the US besides the law schools themselves and professors that may be let go.
Current law students and lawyers are already dealing with an EXTREMELY over saturated job market leaving literally hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of law grads unemployed and up to their dicks in student loan debt.
This is also good for the student loan bubble that's inevitably going to burst.

I was talking to a former Co-worker in a regional firm who had been a partner for 10+ years making plenty of money and he is still miserable. Said he would get out if he wasn't so far in.

You whippersnappers just don't get it.
Yes, oversaturation of the market is one factor. But it's also because the business world is deliberately steering away from needing lawyers by proactively avoiding litigation. I have some of the same clients I had 10 years ago, but the number of files they are sending is now about 30% of what it was. And the lawyers they have, they don't pay. Rates do not keep up with expenses. Profit margins are shrinking. The profession is dying. Do something else.
I have another 15 years of this crap, btw.
