As for the patent law thing, all I can say is of all my friends/acquaintances from law school, there is only one whose job I sort of envy. He is a patent guy and rakes it in without much stress. He pretty much just grinds patent applications. The patent litigation can get nasty and time consuming if you go that route.

Not 100% on this as I don't do IP law, but I would think patent law would be centered in a few large cities and DC. Would be tough to be out in Bunke, LA doing patent law I would assume.

I know Dallas and Houston have patent law firms, but I'm not sure about NOLA thought (which I am assuming would be the only place in LA that might have some patent law).

You're dumb if you choose anything other than SMU.

SabiDojo I went to law school on a full ride, and I wouldn't do it over if I could.

Answer: go where you will spend the least amount of money and where you want to practice.
generally a very good answer.

My perception may be jaded because I dislike being in the profession, but I feel like it is pretty accurate and realistic.
I'm not sure this makes sense. Jaded but accurate?

Loyola may be your best bet, with LSU being second. In my experience, where you get your degree is not nearly as important as where you finish in your lawschool class.

According to a few New Orleans attorneys and Loyola grads themselves, Loyola is steadily declining and producing less and less capable attorneys.

Admitted prejudice, but yet accurate? No wonder you don't care for law if you can't spot the issue/failure in logic.

One doesn't necessarily exclude the other.

Not disagreeing with you by any means, but I worked for a federal judge in New Orleans that was very high on Loyola. As were many of the attorneys I interacted with. The vibe I got from most folks was that if you wanted to practice in the New Orleans area and had a good scholarship offer, Loyola was a good school.

Really? I'm stupid? And you're the one who claims to have no use for a full , free ride though law school? If you didn't get your money's worth, and then some, see my first post in this thread...you are fricking stupid. This comes from one who worked his arse off in law school, paid for it, made partner in a firm by working his arse off, left to do more and sure as hell did...much more...You need to stay out of these threads where kids...yes, kids...ask for advice that isn't jaded.

My father can attest to this. Loyola now =/= Loyola when he graduated in the early 80s.
