It's all in where Laura shows up in the Gulf ftr. The HWRF has it north of Cuba and stronger. The HMON brings it across every mountain it can in the GA and puts it in the gulf at the tip of Cuba and much weaker. Same steering at play but weaker and farther south entrance in the Gulf yields a very different landfall.

And this HWRF run is straight fear porn for SELa.

It will be posted everywhere as gospel. But on the other hand, the trend is not comforting within 100 hours out. Thats getting into tightening consensus territory.

Radar suggests that #Laura's mid-level center is drilling down to the surface just off the southern Puerto Rico coastline. Very strong vortical updraft is evident. The new circulation is small and may be disrupted passing over PR's mountains. Strong winds indicated by radar.

There have been numerous cones with NOLA on the crosshairs 5 days out over the past decade the amounted to nothing.

5 days out you want to be in one of two places - either no where near the cone OR right smack dab in the middle of it.

Where you don’t want to be is in the margin of error.

We haven’t gotten a good test of the storm surge barriers yet. That would certainly give it one.
