Stop relying on your local leadership and do what YOU need to do.

How exactly do you propose I restore electrical power?
Posted on 9/4/20 at 9:34 am to Jim Rockford
I'm not sure what you do for a living but I'm just a wife/mom/consultant at a nursing home -- even I know that restoring this is going to take a while ... things have to be rebuilt and I can't imagine that there is a surplus of equipment in the quantities that this will require.
I promise I understand -- we were without electricity for about 9 or so days after Lili & Rita. But this is different and I'm confident that those who have the capabilities to restore this are working their asses off.

That’s what I mean by substations ready for power. I can’t imagine it’s many. They’re only bringing up one loop and I doubt it’s a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things. Little steps...
I was told by the lineman working by our house that our substation was considered priority number 1 for the city. We are between all the Government buildings downtown and St Pats so that makes sense to me.

They never really gave us a timeline but I do know for Rita we were 2 weeks where as in Laura’s case it was just 1 week. It’s unbelievable the amount of linemen that are around the area. Very appreciate to all those guys busting their butts. They are the real hero’s.

My brother is a lineman for a company that is almost done with their restoration ... not sure if they'll be sent elsewhere when they're done but I know he'll be glad when he can get home before his 3 yo is in bed!
Glad your power is back.

By local leadership, the insinuation is there that you we’re talking about everything else outside of power issues as well.

Anyone with experience dealing with insurance adjusters that can give me the advantage and disadvantage of having a 3rd party adjuster handling our claim?

Can you safely power your house from the meter base? If so you can pull the meter so not to back feed and connect a generator there and power all or most of your house depending on your generator size.

That's awesome. Any idea what the expected time line was?? Just curious to if it's perhaps moving quicker than they thought it would in some areas.
Not sure, just staying here for now. My house is in Lake Charles. I do believe they restored it ahead of schedule

I’m in town now letting the house air out a bit. They are already setting new poles and pulling lines on Ryan in the Don’s car wash area. Was just in Albertsons on Ryan and they were stocking a full freezer of ice if anyone needs it they just got plenty.

Any of you Baws heard anything about when Deridder will get power?
Posted on 9/4/20 at 1:18 pm to KAHog
Parts of DeRidder are already back up. My mom’s office is on Bon Ami and they got it back yesterday I believe. Of course that’s right by the hospital so that’s probably why, but they seem to be getting restored in other areas fairly quickly as well. Drove through yesterday and there’s quite a few crews puttin in work.

Thanks. My Mom lives south of there off 171. Deridder is a hell hole.

Wtf are you talking about then? The local officials nor Entergy officials have never given a timeline other than 4 weeks. It's day 9, there are thousands of lineman in the area, what so expect them to do?
They never once promised it would be on in 10 days, ever. So what are you bitching a out?
As far as how to restore power to your house, generator and back feed(pull the damn meter) or get a whole home installed. If you can get the generator, poche plumbing and lake area electric will install. We have had 19 overnighted into our neighborhood from all over since Tuesday.
Stop feeling bad for yourself and blaming others. Nobody announced or promised power in less than 10 days. Hell the plant can't even start for about 3-5 weeks.

In 2016, I was a victim of the 2016 flood in Livingston Parish area. Finding a reputable quality contractor was a nightmare, so many people needed help ALL at the same time.
Is it okay to recommend a contractor who repaired our home on TigerDroppings? He plans to move his renovation company to the Hurricane Laura area to assist with renovation needs.
Thanks
