i hope this works better for homeowners claims than flood claims. 4 years later and we just settled for pennies. The insurance companies get away with super shady stuff.

I’m switching renters insurance companies as soon as services are restored. Assurant isn’t worth crap. I haven’t made a claim in 10 years and they deny me over what is considered “inhabitable”. We’re clearly displaced but that doesn’t matter even if I have Loss of Use coverage.

I’ll have to do some research but maybe that’s standard practice nowadays.

Good news is that wife and I made up our minds to build what we want.

Stout, if you have the names of some premier builders in the LC area, I’d appreciate if you dropped a line here to help give me a starting point.

Obviously there is much more prep work to do until I get to that point but I worry about finding a quality GC that’s trustworthy since I don’t have much experience in way of construction besides procuring it for commercial/governmental use.

I probably have no clue what I’m talking about but after the 2016 flood my renters insurance didn’t cover anything, a coworker that flooded & had sewage backup got about 25k
It was my understanding that the sewage backup made the difference
I had a place to go & was able to salvage clothing & electronics so I didn’t need to push the issue, I know that’s not the same type of destruction y’all are dealing with though

Keep your head up, it’s a tough road but things will get better
Good luck

I just want loss of use coverage for some of the expenses I have incurred. There is no sewer, which should make the place uninhabitable. I’m told those are the key words. Just electricity and water won’t do it.

Not having sewer available makes it uninhabitable. I didn’t realize you have to specifically point this out.

These insurance companies are a bunch of shysters.

A leaking roof, wet Sheetrock and insulation, caved in ceilings and mold will also do it.

DO NOT use AllDryUSA for water damage repair and mold remediation. After Robert Rodriguez, Operations Manager, promised his crews would be inside my house Monday just passed for demo, I was told yesterday to call again this morning for ETA which was now either first thing this morning or around 2p this afternoon. Now that has shifted to he’ll call me a day in advance but in the range of 10-12 days with jobs ahead of mine.

I let Mr. Robert Rodriguez know I’d promptly Be contacting my insurance as well as a lawyer. I fully intend to speak with the franchise owner and the Better Business Bureau.

Beware Robert Rodriguez and AllDryUSA.

I have zero damage to my home. I also left and have remained gone by choice. The way I figure it, by the time I buy generators, A/C units, and gas every day it will be about the same cost of paying for a monthly rate at a hotel.

That's not to mention the struggle to find gas and food every few days, having spotty cell phone coverage, spotty to no internet for work, etc all of which makes the hotel much less hassle. I also don't need more generators and window units. The ones I do have, some of my family is using, and no way I would take it away from them.

That being said, I am going to try and file a loss of use claim today just to go through the motions because I know it will be denied. Guess I will just have to write the expenses off.

No offense if you know them, but they look like hipster HGTV types. Probably never actually swung a hammer and are simply paper contractors. Maybe I am wrong but that's the vibe I get.

My dad was quoted $4k on his. And he’ll pay it. Let me know if you want me to get the contact info. He just drove around until he found this crew.

Yeah if you don’t mind. Thanks.

I’m sure no matter what it will be expensive just because they have to get someone up so high to take care of it.

Can confirm. My brother in law is one of the owners. Life long moss bluff resident and they do great work. They also do roofing which is major focus right now in the near term.

OK. If they don't look like HGTV hipster then at the very least acknowledge that they look like some of those wanna be hipster preachers that have 40 minutes of singing and 10 minutes of sermons.

Myself but the builders I would use are 3 brothers out of DeRidder. They aren't licensed but have been building for 30+ years and usually have a year-long waiting list. If you are serious, I can send you their info. They make the Duck Dynasty people look sophisticated but they build the best house in SWLA and are reasonable.
