Welp it came over us as a Cat 2 150 miles inland. Just now getting internet back. Looking at probably a week or more for the lights to come back on. Parts of town look like a bomb went off. If I ever meet anybody from West Point GA, the beers are on me. Their line crews are here doing serious work

After Katrina we gave the repair crew beer to take home.

Checking in again.

Just got back to MIL after my first look around town.

Drove from Moss Bluff to Sulphur. Completely obliterated and destroyed were accurate descriptions.

Got the first look in my house. I’m going to have to replace my roof and flooring. The shingles and tar paper that got blown off leaked through pretty significantly. My floors already buckling and Sheetrock cracked and wet and several spots.

All good though. It all can be replaced. Already started my claim.

Question: is it worth it to start a thread to ask advice from people who’s been through this and ask about to avoid scams and how to not overpay for services?

should have seen it yesterday. There was literally 1 lane available down Sampson and you had to bob and weave and take turns with oncoming traffic. Poles and lines in the road everywhere. Someone came through this morning and shoved everything to the side of the street.

The size of Laura’s eyewall was insane. As another poster pointed out, you can see a geometric shape similar to a hexagon in the eye which looks like the storm in Saturn a bit.

You’re not getting power in central Lake Charles for probably 30-45 days. Main Entergy source structure is tore the F up. What I saw was massive devastation to power line infrastructure.

Correct. The exact words I was told were “we are having to redesign the entire infrastructure because there is so much missing from the old.”

It’s going to be a while folks...

Even better news- there was still fairly warm water in water heater tank.

I lucked out. We have about 50% water pressure in Iowa. Plus my water heater is in my attic so when it’s hot as hell during the day up there my water gets heated so I get so Luke warm showers.

If you must know right now, they are struggling with extreme dry air from the Saharan Air Layer. They have around a 30% chance of development, but that is not likely to happen for nearly a week. They are worth keeping an eye on, and hoping they die out in the Atlantic. Conditions are more favorable in the Caribbean and Gulf. There's no need to fret over any of it right now.

It won’t be that bad. Prepare for it but as soon as some feeds are brought back into lake Charles then some areas will get restored but yea if there was a wood pole in lake Charles it’s probably done form

Ah who am I kidding the area is beyond fricked

210 bridge is missing a lot of those brand New metal light poles they just installed. They were laying all over the bridge and I’m sure some them went into the lake.

(And yes, I know the inspection is expired. I was forced to take the shop truck for evacuation.)

I’m from Welsh and it’s bad it’s going to be a while before we get electricity back. I went through Jennings downtown had a little damage but the main drag in Jennings where all the fast food place are had minimal damage and actually had electricity yesterday.

Prom, SFP, stout. Haven’t had time to read through. How’d y’all fair? Spent all day in LC today. It’s a train wreck. Hoping for the best for y’all.

What I saw today, if they fix that in 30 days needs to go in the hall of achievements for mans greatest accomplishments.

Lake Street is an utter disaster. Prien Lake Park Area looks like the battle of Bastogne.

I’m not optimistic at the moment.
