Someone mentioned it in another thread I believe, but I wonder how much of the better outcomes for power and other infrastructure is due to the rebuild after Rita? Prior to Rita it had been a long time since SWLA got a direct major hit, so infrastructure was in terrible shape. Trees too, obviously.
Rita and Ike thinned the herd quite a bit, I’d imagine.
I've been thinking about that.
A while back I read an article/study about areas that have been hit by majors more than once. It said basically what you mentioned. Each subsequent story, and the damage from it, results in more structures built to stricter codes. As that process goes on and the older structures get destroyed and rebuilt, the entire area becomes more resilient.
The same can be said about infrastructure. From power to surge and flood mitigation, everything is brought, at times gradually, up to modern standards and codes. As a rresult, major storms do less property and infrastructure damage.

They will never open the I10 bridge after that

Buddy of mine southeast of Shreveport says it’s really rough there. He’s never experienced winds that bad in his 45 years living in the area. Power out and more trees down than standing

Good luck Stout. I hope you don't have a shingle out of place and that this bitch just washed some dirt off.

Anyone seen/heard anything from Cameron?
Nobody was there and can't get down for a while. Water is still there. Won't here anything for a while.

Not sure about Cameron, but talked to my mom and the people that stayed in Hackberry ended up at the new community center. People making rounds and the wind damage is worse than Rita...they have no roof on their house, lots of down trees etc.

Those winds were no joke.

The one that should have been replaced 20 years ago

I'm due south of shreveport at the parish line. It's getting pretty hairy but haven't seen any trees down. We still have power.

Na, map shows it but it doesn't. Neighbors are there and said it's all out.
We had one guy who had to stay, he went out in the eye and checked every door and took pictures. He said then, the natural gas smell was bad.
