does a weaker than expected storm go farther east or west?
Posted on 8/25/20 at 1:25 pm to slackster
SE LA is good, anything west of Opelousas is going to be fine, stay safe

What at all could make a storm like this go far east from it’s current projection at this point? I know I’m going to get downvoted for probably asking a silly question but I’m honestly just wondering. Is it at all possible for this hurricane to shift drastically east or is that not how this works?

Unlikely. Slide 20-40 miles east? Sure, its not an exact science. That 20-40 is significant though and worth paying attention to.

Yes. I have a vivid memory of you complaining about schools closing before the apocalyptic flood in 2016. I’m sure I could find it if I felt like wasting my time. Being cautious works sometimes you know?!?!

Why is this question being downvoted?

looking at the satellite images it definitely still looks unorganized hopefully it stays like this the rest of the way in.

Anyone have a link to the RPM Model?
Was just surfing and WeatherNation is forecasting a landfall near/over Galveston Bay. They specified this was the model they use. I think they use RPM

What effect could this have? Pushing it west?

Less organized means further east from what everyone else has been saying. So I’d rather not.

What is steering the storm is in the way. Hurricanes don’t create their own steering, by and large. They’re controlled by other meteorological features, in this case, a high pressure system called the Bermuda high. It has expanded (built) into the SE US and won’t let the storm get through it, so Laura is working around it’s periphery in a clockwise motion.
