Going to consider all this tomorrow in the morning. Idk if we will have time to find the rooms we need. I’m not the only one making decisions in this group. There’s more than just my wife and my kids.
I know BR sounds counterintuitive, but it’s a solid option.

How many days of chips and cereal and water do you have?

Serious question: should I be leaving Lafayette? I’m thinking no but I haven’t even considered leaving
Might lose power for a day. I wouldn’t.

I’ve got rooms in Shreveport. I understand that it’s in the path, but obviously will be significantly weaker by the time it gets up there.
You can always leave to Dallas by Wednesday if it looks too bad to Shreveport

can we discuss how fricking big laura is? even as a TS that thing will cover most of the state at its current size

Laura is a fat chick name if I’ve ever heard one

I get that but there's more than one way to and from Shreveport

Can somebody go check to see if Joel Osteen boarded up the doors to his church yet?

feel like people need to go through rds's posts from today and tonight. Then think about if Houston is all that great of a call to evacuate to.
Agreed. Houston is a potential shorter drive home, but that’s with the risk of a more likely spot for the storm to kiss as of now. Shreveport is off the table unless you’re cool with driving somewhere to lose power once you’re there and deal with potentially closed roads on the way home. BR is the best all around option as of now.
To be clear, if you’re not surrounded by water oaks and/or on the coast, your safety isn’t at much of a risk in LC as of now, but your comfort is highly endangered.

That's true about any direction.
North/South will probably be more likely to have travel issues though.

I was on Barbe St the other day so I drove through there and I remembered your thread about flooding the neighbor. Pretty sure I saw your new house framed in. Looks nice.
When Rita passed I had a few specs I was building dried in and honestly there was minimal damage to them. Had to change some decking out and that's about it.
Yea that's mine in the cul de sac. I'm worried because of no windows and the wind coming down the road. Hoping because it's no windows in back it will be fine.
And yea ole boy put in his own drainage and I'm putting in my own. Wish I had it in just to help.

Yes, but those options eliminate the benefit of Shreveport - a close drive.
Ultimately you do what you need to do though. Good luck

My mother mentioned cracking windows before leaving but isn't that an old wives tale?

Don't do that.

If you are debating leaving or staying consider whether you have a generator or can handle not having power if you don't have one. If caring for elderly or young children, I would not stay without a generator - I've been there and done that and believe me it is no fun in 85 degrees and 90% humidity after the storm.
If you are in the red (hurricane force winds possible) or orange (58 to 73 mph winds possible) there is a very good chance you will lose utility power. If you are in the yellow area (tropical storm force winds possible) it is possible that you will lose power - especially on the southwestern edge of the yellow area.

It's nice for a tiny home.
J/K. Even for just being framed in it looks huge.
