Intensity went from 105 to 110mph, right?

Correct, and the 110 mark is well before landfall....leaving room to get to cat 3 status

Hard to see much if any movement in the track. They moved my Thursday 2a H so can’t really compare as good as I would want.

That intensity forecast has more upside risk than downside risk. In other words, a stable/increasing forecast intensity is the most likely scenario for now.

Guys on TWC appear to be convinced this will be a cat 3 upon landfall

Did you get the tips about keeping your freezer colder?

Yeah, I definitely don’t think that possibility can be ruled out. Laura will likely cross the warmest waters in the Gulf.

And those waters don't cool much close to shore. It will likely be strengthening at landfall.

Did you know if you don't open your freezer it has a better chance to stay colder?

I lived in BR for Rita and got worse weather than for Katrina.

Wind speeds were very similar in Baton Rouge for Katrina and Rita. For Katrina sustained winds were 45 mph and gusts were 49 mph. For Rita sustained winds were 41 mph and gusts were 53 mph. The difference in the two storms was the duration of tropical storm force winds Baton Rouge got from Rita. Rita was a long duration event for Baton Rouge while Katrina wasn't. 40 mph winds aren't particularly strong by itself in short durations but when you get sustained tropical storm force winds for a long period of time it starts to bring down trees and power lines. Being on the eastern side of Rita Baton Rouge had strong rain bands set up over the city long before landfall and they lasted until Rita was well past Baton Rouge's line of latitude. This is shown through rainfall totals where Baton Rouge received only 2.39 inches of rain from Katrina but 9.30 inches of rain from Rita.

So what’s Laura looking like for BR? Any predictions on LSU cancelling/ not cancelling toward the end of this week?

I think it will be closer to Cat 4. Which means we need to prepare for a Cat 4 which Levi stated earlier in the day. The pucker factor is real.

What has you thinking this? I know nothing about weather, genuinely asking.

That track would be worst case since that would be the North and East eye wall and possibly never in the eye.
