Do we expect this storm to be the size (not strength or intensity) of Rita? I lived in BR for Rita and got worse weather than for Katrina. Would expect to see similar conditions that far east if we have another Sabine area landfall?

Now this fricker is throwing out there that this could be stronger than a Cat 3.
It could reach Cat 4.

So I live in Alvin, TX which is south of Houston....about 20 miles from Galveston Island as the crow flies.
I’ve never gone through a hurricane and if Laura shifts towards us we are leaving mainly due to having a 3 year old and 7 month old
My question is being 20 miles from Galveston island what kind of wind damage should I expect to see from this storm? I understand being on the right side of the storm is bad but right now there is no way to predict that and there are some big trees around my house.
My house flooded in Harvey and spent 8 months living with my in-laws so I’m trying to get mentally prepared if I will have to do that again.

Shifted back to Sabine Pass?

I sort of figure that sometime tomorrow NHC will be forecasting a Cat. 3 at landfall. Heck, they’re calling for 1mph short of Cat. 3 now.

Marco will essentially rotate back into the GOM, strengthen, then make landfall again.
If I was told this was a possibility a couple days ago, I would've laughed in disbelief. Now, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if this happened.

Yeah, I definitely don’t think that possibility can be ruled out. Laura will likely cross the warmest waters in the Gulf.

You’re unlikely to see some level of life threatening wind on even the most western model tracks as of now. Check back in 12 hours or so for a relatively final assessment.

With a baby at home I'd be leaving if it keeps steering west. Mainly due to power being out. At least send the wife and kids off.

Same here. It was rough. I think we just got stuck in a rain band. I don’t think it’s likely we’ll experience the same from Laura (crossing fingers!).

Does the new 10pm advisory have it going further west?

This thing is threading the needle for now. The 10 am tomorrow update is nut cutting time.

Intensity went from 105 to 110mph, right?
