BayTiger was awesome .. one of the ones you didn't want to ever start a weather thread just like rds.

Supernovasky was great during the 2016 Louisiana floods. Does he still post on here?

I wish there was a stickied thread with just them posting, and another thread like the one we have now. It’s pretty incredible the amount of shite you have to sift through (Peej particularly) to get to the knowledgeable information.
We've tried it and it went poorly IIRC. FWIW, I was allowed to post in the "knowledgeable" thread. Probably my peak as a TD poster.
The problem with the separate threads is that someone like Duke is pretty active and answers questions quite a bit, so some of the best localized information ended up in the layperson thread.

No one will believe me BUT there was one storm that they did indeed limit to only those with real knowledge as deemed worthy by Chicken.
It was Harvey and Rummy was the decider of poster quality.

He saved lives during that event.

Anyone know why there is a lag of it being posted?
The model is initialized using 12z data. That data takes a bit to come in, then the model has to actually run it for the entire globe, hence the delay in output.

Heck, yesterday they were telling Memphis to prepare for outages, gas up the generators and made sure they work. Laura is apparently a monster that was going to maintain low level hurricane status all the way through the Ohio Valley.
A major hurricane can stay together way inland if the atmospheric conditions are a low shear environment and there is nothing to rip it apart. Not sure one could make it to Memphis but I know Camille maintained hurricane status all the way to Jackson, ms and tropical storm status into Tennessee.

I've only seen him jump in on flood related incidents. Of which his information is invaluable.

Was he the one who was accurately predicting the back flooding of the creeks? I remember some poster out of nowhere became the hero we needed.

Props to the Harris County online water gauge site. That place was an incredible resource and invaluable in that Harvey thread.

So the model essentially runs 3.5 hours after 00z, 06z, 12z, and 18z?

everyone was fooling around in a tropical storm thread a year or 2 ago and then he popped in using some of the projected rainfall totals and potential flooding and things in that thread got real serious real quickly

People had been discussing backflooding but no one was doing a great job of visualizing it. Supernova came in hot with the USGS, NOAA, and local elevation maps and put it altogether. He was very good at putting the online resources to work on a localized level for the floods.
