Centinel makes a great point.

Should France be allowed to support a French-speakers revolution in Louisiana? What about Quebec?

We all know that you can't sum up some of these complex relationships in simple, tidy taglines though.

But that's exactly what you've done.

And friends help friends in need.

Ukraine - friend.'

Russia - not friend.

sure. but they wont. cause they are propped up by russia and russia actively played a role in those "uprisings" and russian troops were directly involved

so again. seems like russia could end this war this second if they decided to and we both clearly agree that war is awful and bad

Yes, but also I would assume that we both agree that if those breakway groups, without the help of Russia (militarily), could gain independence from Ukraine they should have the right to do so without being treated as anything but people looking for self-determination.

Sure. Why would anyone be okay with trampeling a just movement for self-determination. If Quebec wants to leave Canada, they should be able to. If Texas wants to leave the US, they should have that right.

Your hypothetical about Louisiana and a francophone rebellion just isn't a real situation, so I don't think we need to talk about that.

so then maybe russia should just walk away and not prop up those regions with its own military, or bomb and lay siege to ukrainian cities, and shouldnt commit war crimes against the civilian population of ukraine

ukraine and donbas and luhansk and crimea should figure this out amongst themselves. why is russia involved at all?

Here is what those states do NOT do now.

Hold fair elections.
Issue Passports
Have a currency
Have embassies
Protect and register copyrights
Have any import or export controls
Have their own distinct langue
Have - for that matter - any kind of "history" really.
Give out drivers licences
Have courts or jails (that is all done in Russia for them)

Those countries in now way can even be considered to exist.

Northen Cyprus can make a better case, at least they have a soccer team and two embassies.

Well there we start reaching into the bag of complexity right? Those regions are composed of people who, about 20 percent of, consider themselves ethnic Russians. Russia has made no bones about wanting to help them. It's also in their economic interests to do so as well. In reality, even if Russia had no hand in those regions leaving Ukraine, it would still make sense to draw close to them.

No you're just a self-righteous prick. I'm answering the same questions asked by other people who are actually interested in discussion and not just lording over that "you've been to Ukraine" whatever the frick that even buy you.

What about Ukraine (and their hawkish attitude towards Russia) makes you think siding with them is in the best interests of an American?
