No sane person is happy about war anywhere. People are ultra concerned about the ramifications of this. We have an idiot in the Whitehouse, who was a foreign policy idiot his whole life even when he was fully functional. Now he's suffering from dementia, and we are all worried that he will do something galactically stupid.

Not seeing any bombs being dropped in Kiyv yet.

I'll admit a dirty not-so-secret that a lot of us are intrigued by being witnesses to history in our lifetimes. So part of me was probably rooting for war even if I would obviously have stopped it if within my power to do so.

RTR - following on twitter or watching a feed?
I saw someone un a hotel basement in Kiev saying they were hearing thuds.
The report earlier in the day was 3AM, which is now, so I would expect it soon

I can't imagine there will be a huge air campaign there. Seems like they'd try to keep the capital in tact as much as possible.

The problem is that he's surrounded by hawks and people who have been itching to pick a fight with Russia who are making all the decisions for him. The guy is just an empty suit and the DC machine is calling the shots here.
Unfortunately, we saw in Afghanistan just how incompetent these people are.

Well, Putin has been extremely clear what his terms are and I expect that he will escalate until they are met.

Not all of them. Zelenskyy is in the fricking trenches with his men as is another former Ukrainian President.

Destroying a place you're looking to occupy, especially for historical/sentimental/cultural significance, isn't a particularly rational move.

Communists burn everything to the ground but the most magnificent structures that they can claim as their own.

I do think it's likely Russia hoped they could capture those airfield(s) with airborne troops and avoid heavy use of airstrikes and armor to take it, and perhaps that's looking less likely now

They had to know Ukraine would put emphasis on airfields. Didn’t Ukraine have spec ops at Hostomel?

There are undoubtedly quite a few people in this very thread who are happy Biden couldn’t negotiate his way out of conflict in Ukraine. That’s undeniable.
I’m not necessarily saying folks are happy there is a war, but there clearly people who are happy because they believe it to be another black eye for Biden.
