Michael A. Horowitz is another good Twitter follow. Here are two tweets to show some of the stuff he's tweeting:

Russian forces appear to have launched a two-pronged assault to link the separatist-held areas with Crimea, as they entered Melitopol, and are now launching an attack in the outskirts of Mariupol

So far, the Ukrainian lines in the Donbass have held very well. But Russian attacks are likely meant to isolate Ukrainian forces dug up along the line of contact.

It's significantly more complicated than ya'll are thinking. Could it happen, sure but its not the slam dunk this board keeps making it out to be. Huge risk for China and their relatively infant navy/air force.
China also loves playing the long game. Things like this are not quite their style. They’d rather move smaller moves over long periods of time

And another with a bit of good Ukranian news:
@michaelh992
ETA: He also has some damn good info in regards to individual battles and Russian losses of equipment and soldiers.

#Breaking #Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Defense says army action in Hostomel prevented landing of Russian forces, reports continued fighting

Right, but that doesn't really suggest Russia is in trouble, or even bogging down, more that it's deliberately not pursuing a "shock and awe" strategy.
I'm not saying it does, I'm just passing along information.
If Russia really wanted to, they could end this shite quick with the amount of forces they have stacked up in the area. Looks like they are trying to avoid that.

At this stage, it almost feels like Russia is just doing some probing to find areas of weakness in Ukraine to exploit.
That's part of Russian/Soviet doctrine, but it's also doctrine to immediately roll through areas of weak or no resistance without waiting for reinforcements. Evidently they haven't found any yet.
If the story about the Russian airborne task force being overrun is true, that would be significant.

Has it been posted yet that Pelosi wants to give Ukraine $600 million worth of defensive weapons?

If the Ukranians have good coverage with mortars and surch of the Hotomel airport, it may well wind up being a killing ground for Russians. There is a hell of alot of open ground around that airport with little-to-no cover.

Some info about the type of conscription/draft Ukraine has implemented:

Putin laughs at the career politician "adults in the room" liberals who claim they are the experts on everything

They'd have to take it through Poland, maybe. A bit late for that type planning, Nancy.

Hopefully it’s just a staging area.

If Ukraine had some air support, one would call those very nice targets.

Some officials also worry the U.S. could be seen as a legal co-combatant to a wider war w/ Russia
