Look for Russia to send drone swarms and start targeting civilian infrastructure with missles. Maybe even hit some schools for good measure. The gloves are off!

How dare the West(Ukraine) attack the very planes that on a regular basis attack Ukrainian cities. Don’t they know they are bringing on WWIII?

Key Points from Putin’s Statement at Government Meeting:
??The Kiev regime, already illegitimate, is transforming into a terrorist organization.
??The sabotage of trains in Bryansk and Kursk regions is clearly a terrorist act. Putin called the Bryansk incident a deliberate attack on civilians.
??Putin stated that the decision for these railway attacks was made at the political level in Ukraine.
Ukraine is taking heavy losses and retreating along the entire front line, trying to scare Russia with acts of terror.
??Putin ordered full support for the victims and families of those affected by the train incidents.
??Moscow isn’t surprised that Kiev rejected a short ceasefire on humanitarian grounds.
??Any pause in combat would be used by Kiev for forced mobilization, arms shipments, and planning more terrorist attacks.
??Power means more to the Kiev regime than peace or the lives of Ukrainians, whom they no longer even consider their own people.
??Putin said the upcoming Security Council session will address Ukraine with the Foreign Ministry and security services.
??The Kiev regime is deeply corrupt and completely rotten.
??Ukrainian forces suffered huge and senseless losses in Kursk region.
??On the battlefield, Ukrainian troops are facing one defeat after another.

If Russia was smart they would cozy up to the EU and basically buy them off with plentiful Nat Gas and Oil. And then present themselves to the US as a strategic ally against Chinese expansion in Asia.
But Putin it too egocentric. He doesn't want to be a supplier. He wants to be a Czar.
The silver lining in all of this is that Russia is on a RR track to implosion and instability. And that might distract China long enough to put off their invasion of Taiwan. They can't invade Taiwan while they're having to "stabilize" Siberia and make sure those Gas, Timber, and Mineral resources dont fall into the wrong hands....
China and Russia are both quickly headed towards demographic problems that will destabilize them, internally. I know, so are Ukraine, Germany and Japan, and most European countries... so what's the difference? Land mass. And enemies they've made and aggravated on their borders.

That's true, but I also think he is kind of right in the sense that we would treat them as lesser even if he did integrate/capitulate some to the west. So if you're Russia the calculus becomes where you can be an equal in BRICS (for now), or a second class citizen to the west who will likely discard you eventually as the world moves away from your largest exports.
So we should treat him as an equal when he isn't? This is the entire thing, you're both right... but, Russia is the equal of Spain or France, and as you noted, slipping as their 19th Century economy (and most of their people) gets left behind.
The world shouldn't suffer dictators and their delusions and temper tantrums lightly.

Economically we are going to see productivity per person skyrocket. So my theory is that in a future where AI is doing a large chunk if not most of the work we collectively do now for us, there will be some cutoff point where having a greater population is a net drain on a country rather than an asset. The vast majority of people aren't capable of doing any kind of work beyond basic tasks that an AI can assist with if not do entirely on its own.... All of the talk about AI freeing people up to be creative, advance science, etc is largely BS because the people who can do those things for the most part already are, or they are just talented individuals anyway and are able to actually contribute to society in a way that is beyond taking orders at McDonalds or answering phone calls at a service desk.
Wandering off topic a bit, but the problem is that Capitalism needs consumers. Ai will not be consumers. How will there be a market with minimal consumers?
Bill Gates is right... tax the automated production just like we tax human workers at the moment, and send everybody a check. Who cares what they do with it or otherwise with their lives. They're being "productive" by just buying crap... that's what our economy is based on and has been for quite a while.

I didn't say should or shouldn't. I said would.

In this scenario where the west embraces him, you would assume he acts more similar to an Orban than what he currently is.

Yes that is what it would have to come down to. This kind of economic shift almost requires a population decline to work.

" Additional footage of the operation and its results will be released over the coming days, including several videos and shots shown recently to Congress."
I like the way they are doling out Putin's humiliation

I think we somewhat tried that... we certainly tried it with Yeltsin... Putin came in and changed the vibe.

Congress?
Was Hegseth really watching it all in real time?
So Trump was left out of the loop? Or didn't want to bother being in the loop?
