Have you ever had a leak in your roof? A very slight leak. Did you leave it unattended? What happened?

You think coming up with an analogy is being specific?

Not to rehash the "they don't have any nukes that actually work" take/guess that someone will inevitably throw out after my comment, but even if we did completely steamroll their military why wouldn't they use any working nukes they have?

Not me, specifically

But a dude several neighborhoods over did. He was an acquaintance, we barely knew each other. Nonetheless I took on the responsibility of fixing it, it was a fiasco, it ended up destroying his whole house and I got sued by the contractor and the dude with the leak despite trying to be altruistic and ended up in bankruptcy.

Good basic rundown on the Storm Shadows and the differences between Russian anti-personnel mines and American mines.

Yes, if you neglect something small it gets larger and larger and in time becomes a bigger and bigger problem.

A real world scenario.

A dictator sets his eyes on a neighboring country. He bullies the president into leaving the country and takes over.

He isn’t satisfied. He goes after another country that is stronger. The second country isn’t bullied, but his allies cave. The dictator rolls in.

By now the dictator is full of himself. He decides to go after a much bigger fish. Poland is right there. He cuts a deal with another dictator and they carve up four nations.

By now the rest of the world wakes up, but that small problem is a big one and it will continue to get bigger and bigger.

In our business I call this squashing lizards vs slaying dragons.. ignore the lizard long enough and it will grow into a dragon...

If that’s the case what does 20,000 NK regulars shipping out to Russia mean?
Perhaps the same thing it meant when Germany sent forces to Spain pre-WWII? It is an opportunity for Kim to test readiness, tactics, and effectiveness.

You regularly mention how inept Russia is, and then in this argument they are going to take Poland?

They would, totally!!! That's why we're not to get into that direct confrontation with them... and why we're trying to prevent Poland or Romania from steamrolling their military, for the same reason.

Will you guys acknowledge that NATO and US forces in Europe have been laser-focused on taking on the Russian military? And... at the same time, we WAY overestimated the Russian military, so we've overprepared. And that's what has people in the Pentagon kind of terrified, because Russia does not have a capable conventional military but the world's largest nuclear arsenal.

At this point they don't have the mechanized force left to attack Ukraine and are back to their old meat wave attacks.

We have made Ukraine fight with one arm tied behind its back, but it's still there.

I don't have a strong opinion either way on the NK troops and what that means from their end or Russia's, but I don't think thats some far out possibility.

This conflict isn't existential for Russia. NK wants a dedicated ally, but if Russia loses its not like they won't exist anymore. And its not like NK hasn't already been assisting them with shell production. I think the Norkies would learn a lot getting some actual combat experience against troops armed with western weapons.

I think if the people who actually make decisions overestimated the Russian military that much we wouldn't have seen the trickle of weapons and aid coming from Washington. That tells me that our defense leadership has known Russia is a paper tiger for some time. Its only portrayed as the empire from Star Wars when we need to cut checks to defense contractors for the latest and greatest.

You don't think he wants to assess readiness in case a southern opportunity presents?

I never said they were going to take Poland again. They aren’t going unchecked like Hitler and Stalin were for a time.
