Trump just announced he is meeting with Zelenskyy tomorrow morning in Trump Tower.

Ukraine is much bigger than Zelensky. It is a matter of America's word of honor and keeping our promises.

I voted for Obama and i think he’s an extremely sharp and gifted speaker, but god damn he was weak on foreign policy. So much of the problems we are dealing with in the world today, including the Ukraine problem, are the direct result of Obama’s fear of conflict. We will need at least two more decades of consistent and serious foreign policy before things stabilize for US interests abroad.

And you think Kampala will be any better? Can you see her up against Putin or Xi. They would laugh that cackling idiot out of the room. Remember she was the last person in the room with Biden on the Afghanistan decision. Her words, not mine.

Sounds like you voted for the Dems. It was the Dems who rectum raped our defense industry and made 100's merge into a few.

FTR, the Bushes played a pivotal role in turning Texas conservative starting in the 1960's when it was an FDR Democrat state. But you'd actually have know more than what you do.

George Bush Jr should be tried for war crimes for his Iraq adventure. That was terrible for this country. He and Cheney are pos. Trillions of dollars wasted there and in Afghanistan. Wasted lives and look at both countries today. You are a lapdog neocon yourself.

British Defence Intelligence
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 27 September 2024

Russia's autumn conscription cycle starts on 1 October 2024. All eligible Russian men under the age of 30 are required to serve one year of military service. To date conscripts have not been sent to fight in Ukraine. Since the start of the war in February 2022, Russian leaders have stated that conscripts will not be sent to the frontline.

However, conscripts were deployed in the military operation in Kursk in August 2024. In response, some parents have voiced concerns that their sons have been sent to fight after serving less than four months. Legally, conscripts can serve in a combat zone if they have served four months and have been trained in a relevant specialisation.

The reaction of families of conscripts to their deployment in the defence of mainland Russia likely reinforces for Russian leaders the sensitivity of deploying conscripts to Ukraine itself. However, Russia will likely continue to force conscripts to sign contracts following their completion of service to ensure a steady supply of personnel for the war amid high attrition rates.

Obama knew that if he just didn't frick it up he would be remembered favorably because of the "demographic significance" of his presidency, if for nothing else. So in ways he sacrificed long term stability for short term..... in 8 years its someone else's problem anyway.

That said, he was absolutely correct when he said Ukraine isn't strategically significant for the US, and that we would never have the escalation advantage against Russia there.

If Obama had treated the invasion of Crimea the way the US treated the invasion of Kuwait... what do you think the domestic reaction would've been?

As it is, no Republican voter at this point ever voted for W Bush or supported invaded Iraq (though they were all screaming that anybody that questioned that at the time were traitors and communists and whatever else)... the tide had shifted and nobody wanted America to have a foreign policy, at all...

and - this will cause rage strokes here, I'm sure - Trump's foreign policy is pretty much the same as Obama's, just with chest-beating and false bravado before crawfishing out of confrontation... and before pointing out that Trump drone killed whoever, Obama drone killed tons of people but didn't brag about it... we pretty much killed anybody in higher brass in Al Qaeda, their extended families and anybody who'd delivered them a pizza in 24 months during his term.

HOOVER INSTITUTION: Are Trump And Obama Really That Different?
The two share very similar policy agendas: nation-building at home and retreat abroad.

FOREIGN POLICY RESEARCH INSTITUTE: Obama and Trump: Foreign Policy Opposites or Twins?

Both presidents pursued a narrative of extrication from forever wars in the Middle East. Both pursued the same basic strategy in the war against ISIS, backing Syrian Kurdish fighters with Special Forces and airpower. During the Obama administration, ISIS lost half its territory; during the Trump administration, ISIS lost the other half. And both presidents believed that Iraq meant the system was broken.

While the example given is factually true it is also a narrow example..

Now lets talk about when Trump had ordered the strike that took out Qassem Soileimani.. Do you think Obama would have ordered that??

I already addressed you bringing that up in my post, before you did it.

I'm not sure Obama would've done that but I'm not sure who recommended that action and why? He was someone who did awful things. Great, that's the same exact rationale for invading Iraq and toppling Hussein.

Like I said, Obama droned so many people in Al Qadea and ISIS it stopped being news and almost just seemed embarrassing after a while.
